CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.
The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.
The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.
Horrific problem with gas mileage!!! I don't even get 200 miles to a 17 gallon tank. 2 different dealerships have been unable to help me. Also, the gas lights comes off and on and I am told there is nothing they can do. One of the dealerships tried changing the instrument cluster, yeah... that didn't work at all. The dealer I bought it from, Pittsburgh, PA, got the car from OH. I just want it fixed, I really like the car other than that. My next step might be to use the lemon law.
From day one of having this piece of junk that has been in the shop 3 times and only has a total of 3,200 miles on it (I've had it just over 3 months) this thing has had bad bad gas mileage. It gets a whopping 10 or sometimes 12 miles to the gallon city when chevy boasts its 18-20 mpg/city... highway is only 18 mpg when it boats 25... dealer says there is no problem... I had a full sized ford expedition eddie bauer with all the extras that I traded in to get a smaller suv with better mileage... I chose wrong. I'm spending as much in gas on the smaller equinox as I did my expedition and it was nicer and bigger. I got better gas mileage in that big expedition. I feel like chevy ripped me off.
