CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.
The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.
The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

Our car had to be towed in after ONE week of owning it at 500 miles. The Passlock light was on and eventually caused the car not to start. The problem was said to be fixed. At 4000 miles car was taken in again for same problem. Once again the problem was solved. At 7400 miles car was taken in again for Passlock light. Problem was taken care of again. That night(Friday) as we were going out to dinner the Passlock light came on again. That following Saturday morning car was taken back in and held onto for a week. It was given back again and then 100 miles later it had to be towed in again for the same reason only to finally have someone come in from out of town to finally fix the problem. Now at 15,000+ miles it is back in the shop again for a new thing. I WILL NEVER BUY CHEVY AGAIN!!!
