CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.
The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.
The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.
Complained about this issue 1 week after purchase ad was told by service dept that they did not see this as a problem. Have complained numerous times since and still being told that they don't see an issue!
Increasingly frequency when you start it the starter/engine keeps turning over like it's not started but then eventually stops but wonder how much damage it's doing. My friend has the "same motor year but different vehicle brand" and it does the same thing. They've had it into the mechanic but they can't figure out what's wrong with it because when it's in the shop, it doesn't act up so we're just "dealing" with it until it becomes a bigger problem....

My truck continues in the ignition phase. I worry sometimes that this will cause an accident.
