My 2006 Chevrolet Equinox LS has problems with the AC and Heat. The AC blows hot air and the heater blows cold air... I was told the problem was that the blending door was broken. It is expensive to replace this part. I received a quota of 1500.00 for repairs. If I get on the highway where the speed the AC will begin to blow cool air but driving in the city with 35mph, you burn up because the AC doesn't work.

Update from Jan 20, 2022: Now the AC doesn't work for either the hot or cold. It only blows air and the defroster only blows cold air. With all the complaints why can't there be a recall?

I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SINCE APRIL. AT FIRST I HAD NO AIR AND I CHECKED ONLINE TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM.TO MY SURPRISE THERE WERE A FEW OR SHOULD I SAY HUNDREDS! I THOUGHT THERE IS NO WAY I CAN AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED.LUCKY I KEPT TURNING THE COLD HOT KNOB AND IT STARTED WORKING.SO IT TURNED COLD AND RAINING AND TURN HEAT ON .ALL IT WOULD DO IS BLOW COLD AIR AND WINDOWS FOGGED UP AND I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING OUT OF IT.I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT BEING IN ACCIDENT.THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS! I HAVE IT IN SHOP NOW AND IT GOING TO BE 8 HOURS OF LABOR TO FIX .GOING TO CHARGE ON MY CREDIT CARD AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW I'M GOING PAY IT.G.M. KNOWS THIS WAS A PROBLEM AND THEY JUST KEPT MAKING THE EQUINOX WITH THE DEFECTIVE PART. unable to see out of windshield due to no defogger/defroster working. Lucky not to have had an accident cleaning the windows by hand while driving! turns out the blend door needed replacement, which is a very common problem in 2006 equinox. actually chevy has recalled other years for this same problem, but I guess since 2006 has the most complaints, they dont want to pay for that year! Went back to chevy repair center in my hometown, very rude, familiar with problem, didnt even look at car, said nothing was wrong! Called GM in Detroit, said there are no recalls associated with my car. That was all they could say. Every word I said to them resulted in that same reply. However, they did state that my car was made in Canada! I guess American Made includes all of North America, not just the US. How does President elect Trump feel about that??? Why a U.S. taxpayer bailout for Canadian made products??????? Will never buy another "American Made" auto again!

Why use such a cheap part in a place that has little access to it. These vehicles should be recalled. I would say having heat to defrost a windshield is rather important. Sad thing is, if it wasn't so expensive to repair they probably would have recalled them but no, car owners have to flip the $1000 dollar bill. Never buy this model car in the summer-no one checks the heat in the summer.

Update from Nov 1, 2016: Had repair done. Cost me $1250. 15 hours of labour.

Thanks GM. Next time gonna look at some foreign vehicles instead of trying to be faithful to an American company. You've done this to yourselves.

SERIOUSLY THOUGH. I am expected to pay $1,000 to fix something, that from what i understand is a VERY common problem, that clearly points to GM poorly manufacturing their vehicles with faulty parts. OR instead I can drive around with NO HEAT and watch as my car falls apart because it's below freezing for a few months out of the year in Ohio.

And this isn't a safety recall because...... ????

I can definitely see through my ice covered windows. I also love the feel of frozen shocks jarring my body every time I drive over a crack in the pavement. No heat in freezing temps. What a dream this car is.

Hi there, I had purchased this vehicle (if that is what GM wishes to call it), all good for a few months, then!!!!!!! Here we go.....control ass'y arm for drivers side front window went ... haha, part was worth over $700 and probably another couple hundred to install in shop, Thankfully I took care of it my self.

Then few weeks later loud rumbling noise under hood (thought it was exhaust system) turned out to be rotted pipe for E.G.R. valve, had to replace valve ass'y complete, cause you know G.M. in their infinite wisdom changed the perimeters of the tube length. Holy crap, you even have to rewire the new one differently to accommodate the plug on new valve. Once again I took care of it myself. Cost of new egr valve about $400, nice!

Let's not even go near the hub bearing situation.....cost about $400 per side on the front, and of course shortly after the hanger bearing went. The whole drive train had to be replaced......cost of yet another $500.

So here we are now with the colder weather setting in and look.....no friggen heat. Apparently the temp blend door has malfunctioned, go figure!!!!! And to top it all off GM is aware of this door breaking because of the control motor swinging over to far and stressing the one side of the door mounting pin ass'y. Job in the shop costs about $1000, have to completely rip apart the whole dash just to get at the problem, hence why it costs so much....

Most of the issues I have tackled myself, but this one takes the the cake, not sure if I'm willing to take this one on, not to mention that even if this gets fixed chances are it could happen again because GM does not wish to follow up on their responsibility to recognize it is a flaw in their design....

I'm hearing bubbling noise in the dash and told that this could ultimately lead to heater core replacement or possibly head gasket , both again being a very expensive repair. Sad that a once upon a time one of the leading North American car manufacturers have fallen short in making a vehicle that people such as myself proud of driving.

You know I get it, you can't make something that will last with out some maintenance, you need this to stimulate the economy. From the mechanic shops to the parts shops and the manufacturers that make the parts, but this is a little beyond that, no accountability. It's no wonder that most people, or at least the majority that I know are buying (once thought of as foreign) other brand names such as Honda, Nissan, ect. ect. ect.

Then everyone wonders why Ontario is suffering and all of north America because the auto trade for once upon a time domestic car manufacturers ( G.M. , Chrysler, Ford ) don't give a crap about their vehicles after the sale, what do you think happens to the economy when hundreds of thousands of jobs are at stake because they just can't build a reliable vehicle , people end up buying other manufacturers vehicles that actually work with less issues, less head aches ,less stress, and not always having to dip into their savings to fix these p.o.s. . In closing all I can say is , shame on you G.M. for loosing my loyalty in your product, I'm sure the money you saved in recalls for your incompetence surely has made some nice bonuses for the big wigs in upper management. Choke on it and remember, everything comes around full circle, one day soon something is going to come around to bite you right in the ass.

I notice my temperature control was not working proper I had to turn the knob for the right temp.

Wow I received a letter form GM about bulletin SB 11135 Hvac temperature valve.

I took my vehicle to Terry Cullen with the letter they stated my problem was not the valve and could not duplicate the problem. Per the Tech the temp door and actuator covered under the policy work working as designed, but I had to replace blower motor, blower resistor and pigtail for resistor for $596.33.

I called GM and inform them of the information I received and the repair I paid for. Their reply was they have to go by what the dealer states and they are not mechanics this is not fair at all. I would like to be refunded my monies for this repair that should have been covered.
