When turning the regular air on (before pressing the A/C button) it blows out warm air (to the feet/face) but when the nob to make the air flow to the top of the dashboard/window shield, it turns into COLD A/C air. Once you press the A/C button when in the beginning it wasn't pressed, it turns into warm to HOT air even if the air flows to your feet/face and top of dashboard/window shield.

Also, when we are testing the air to see if it's working properly, a small amount of smoke comes out around the steering wheel. We immediately shut everything off. (this has happened 3 times)

My 2006 Chevy Equinos LS is having what appears to be the most common problem with the faulty air blending door and actuator. The door which is made of plastic has a part that breaks off. The repair seems to require a tremendous amount of labor to remove the dash to reach the broken part for replacement. From

What I've read the parts run around $250. And the labor $800.00. Chevrolet should issue a recall as this is a persistent recurrent problem with many safety ramifications. My vehicle is under 50,000 miles of cautious, cared for driving. In my opinion having to repair an issue that could have been easily avoided by using a stronger part is unacceptable.

Gm should have fixed the'06 Equinox AC system by recall years ago! I just got back from the dealer. Same old problem; one of two fans(go figure) burns out, never to return, and the engine overheats. The rising temp shuts off the ac till everything cools down again.

I have repaired this at an independent for $520, and the local dealer for $830. This time the tag will go to $1000 at the dealership. This time, though an honest service writer told me the real deal: Factory Design Flaw!

A $1000 fix would last awhile then the fan would burn out again and again.

Now what? I can't in good conscience sell it or trade it in. Its a turd in a wet sack! No ac in SE Texas is pretty useless. I can only hope someone with insurance wrecks it.

My wife and i got a letter last moth from the Chevy corporate office. It stated that there was an issue with the HVAC system / Heater / AC. Well we called them to see if it was a recall or what. They said not really it is a special coverage that falls under the extended warranty. We were furious about that. So I was like why punish the ones who are out of he warranty / Mileage brackets. They basically said sorry but there is nothing we can do about that. was like WTF you mean there s nothing can do bout it. So from this moment on i am so close to hiring an attorney.

The AC works great for about 20 minutes then switches to hot air and the AC freezes over . Vapors start coming out of the vents and then it starts spitting ice. The only way to get cool air again is to turn it off completely for 20-30 minutes to allow it to de-ice. It runs for 20 more minutes and the process starts again. Not optimal for 104 temp degree days and a newborn baby. Freon has been checked and is fine. 2 trips to the Dealer and they can't find the problem. Today is the first I have searched for info regarding the issue and am SHOCKED to see the amount of similar complaints that Chevy has simply chosen to ignore.
