CarComplaints.com Notes: In many ways, the 2012 Cruze continues the legacy of its predecessor. It's a legacy of sluggish transmissions and coolant leaks, but it's still a legacy.
To be fair, the number of complaints about the cooling system are way down versus the 2011 model which led to a class-action lawsuit.
On the flip-side, there's more concerns about brake problems.
However, there were far more Cruze vehicles sold for the 2012 model year so we'll give it our "Beware of this Clunker" badge rather than the "Avoid Like the Plague."

Driving around 40mph towards school, another student in a '94 Chevy Silverado single cab failed to yield at a stop sign. He pulled into the path of my car, which caused us to smash the drivers side corner into the passenger door of the pickup. Car had extensive damage, as we were traveling around 35mph when we hit the pickup. Damage included: Front corner of the car being pushed all the way to the wheel of the car, drive line snapping on drivers side, radiator being knocked out of place, and door hinges on drivers side being damaged enough that the door would not open but a few inches. The car also sideswiped the truck, which cause damage do the rear door, rear fender, and rear wheel. However, none of the airbags went off. Police told us that the front and side airbags should have gone off in this collision. Also, drivers side seat belt did not lock up, allowing me to come very close with making contact with the dash and steering wheel. Damage was enough to total the car.
