CarComplaints.com Notes: In many ways, the 2012 Cruze continues the legacy of its predecessor. It's a legacy of sluggish transmissions and coolant leaks, but it's still a legacy.

To be fair, the number of complaints about the cooling system are way down versus the 2011 model which led to a class-action lawsuit.

On the flip-side, there's more concerns about brake problems.

However, there were far more Cruze vehicles sold for the 2012 model year so we'll give it our "Beware of this Clunker" badge rather than the "Avoid Like the Plague."

Ok.. obvious car is not charging up.. alternator.. Battery was fine. Also changed that. Why not? Anyways... a new alternator from Lordco here in BC was $1500!!!!! The dealer was more. Off to the wrecker we go. Except that not a lot of shops have them! Which to me is odd... my car is a dying breed... surely people are walking away from it .. aren't they? Such a piece of... Anyways.. we finally find one its $300. plus freight to get to us. Fixed the problem.. but what the heck? Another issue to deal with. Car was not even 4 years old yet. Coolant leak, valve cover gasket problem, a/c problem, transmission problem... the list goes on and on.. more problems coming.. don't worry.

Cruze LT Turbo 1.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,768 miles

I live about 28 km from work and I work evenings to after midnight, so having a RELIABLE vehicle is a must. I purchased the car used in June 2015 with under 60,000 km on the clock. On the 20th November at 9:45 pm, I started the car, put it in reverse and after moving back about 6 feet, the engine simply DIED. All the electricals were just fine. The battery was full of power. Turning the ignition switch off and on only produced a lighted dash and headlights etc., NO power to the starter motor, just absolute silence. No clicking of the starter motor to indicate a low battery or starter motor issue.

Fortunately one of my employer's service vehicles was nearby and after trying a boost - NO START; after checking various fuse - NO START; he asked me to hold the ignition switch at the ON position, he then jiggled the entire fuse box and the car started. We wedged the sponge handle of my ice-scraper between the box and the front spring housing to create some connection pressure and the car started again. My shift ended after midnight and when I left for home, fortunately it started again. I have driven a vehicle that lost power some years ago so I know how dangerous it could be in traffic, so to say the least, I was quite nervous about driving home.

Next day, I tried starting it again just to make sure it worked - before I had to leave for work, it started very sluggishly - tried it twice then decided to get it to a dealership immediately. On the way to the dealership, the engine died at a major traffic intersection. I had to push it to the curb and get a tow-truck to the dealership. The result so far is that they now want to change the entire fuse box at a cost of Cdn$680.00 - for real??? I obtained a Vehicle Report and found that (1: the Fuel Pump Flow Control Module was replaced on 16.Oct.2014; (2: the vehicle "died" on the road on 6.Feb.2015; (3: the Engine Control Module was reprogrammed on 10.Mar.2015; (4: the engine does not start 19.Mar.2015; and now my very own issue with the engine dying. They are saying that it is not within warranty, however GM has to know of the major issues with this vehicle and I am NOT paying the cost of fixing.

Why can't manufacturers have the integrity to stand behind their products that they spend MILLIONS on advertising over imports???? When will companies get the message that CUSTOMER LOYALTY begins at HOME and with how they handle complaints??? This is ridiculous!! I've found numerous similar complaints while surfing "Cruze Issues" on the internet.
