CarComplaints.com Notes: What’s that smell – it’s a tad sweet with a tinge of chemical toxicity? If you own a 2011 Cruze it’s probably a coolant leak. It’s a widespread and notorious problem for the car and is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of New York. And that’s not the only problem 2011 owners face…

Many say the 2011 model year suffers from a throttle lag that is probably due to a fauly electronic throttle control. The problem is signifigant enough that some owners say they are too scared to drive their cars. Those that do get behind the wheel often say their transmission isn’t shifting properly and problems start occuring as early as 15,000 miles.

All of this leads us to say you’re probably better off without this car’s headaches (they’re probably chemically-induced anyway).

It's been going off and on every since I first got the car I smell a burning smell and it loses power is stalls and the dealership keep telling me it's just air getting into it but I know it's my turbo because my neighbor has one her turbo went out and I have two other friends that has one and both their turbo went out and now it's making a knocking noise and everyone that I have look at it say it's the turbo it's the wastegate I don't drive my car much and only has 26,000 miles on it because I'm afraid to drive it I've had it fixed more than 10 times it had a oil leak where would catch on fire but the dealership put turbo fans in instead of giving me a new motor so it's still flames up from the oil pan but they say the turbo fans is going to blow the fire out so it's not going to hurt me but I don't drive it far because I'm scared when it gets hot that's going to catch on fire and nobody would give me anything for it that's why I still have the car but I'm willing to just take a big loss and just let them have it back the doors open without touching the car with the electrical system the lights are just go out in the dash just random so I can't drive it at night I hope you can see the oil on the pictures it just shoots all over the place and when I take it to the dealership they say the recall is not on my car they have a recall on the turbo and the vacuum system but they run my VIN number and say it's not on my car when I first got this car it was quiet it caught on fire from an oil leak they fixed it now it sounds like a truck you can hear it three blocks away is stalls all the time and they tell me it's the gas I'm using I switch to premium gas and it still does it this car is junk I hope nobody ever buys it Chevy should be shut down

I bought the 2011 Chevrolet cruz in 2014, I used the car primarily for work so throughout the first few years I didn't notice anything strange as it remained parked most the time. When I did start driving it as a primary vehicle the first issue I had was the clutch and gear system seemed to be touchy when the car was in park, resorting to me using the emergency brake every time I would park it. At the time it didn't seem to be a big issue as it became a habit. In 2016 shortly after this my oil consumption and turbo failed, and the vehicles exhaust started blowing blue smoke and the car lost all power. As this was a new car I took it to a mechanic and had vehicles turbo replaced. Just over a year later in 2018 the vehicle is exhibiting the exact same effects such as removing and replacing the eco,1.4L engine, turbocharger, evacuate and replace air conditioning system, and transfer of the fuel and electrical assemblies and engine mounts. I'm almost certain this car is defective and needs to be recalled.

In the last 4 months my tracking control, stability traction control, and reduce engine power light stays on. I have had knock censor replaced, value covers but nothing has worked. My car constantly cuts off in in the middle of traffic and three times on the freeway at 65 miles. The car is very unsafe and yet there are no recalls on my car.

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. While driving approximately 55 mph, the engine overheated. The vehicle was towed to hardy Chevrolet (2026 macland rd, dallas, ga 30157) where it was diagnosed that the reservoir and hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Months later, while driving, the stabilitrak warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to steve rayman Chevrolet (2155 cobb pkwy SE, smyrna, ga 30080) and repaired. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed back to steve rayman Chevrolet where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost; however, the vehicle was taken to an unknown independent mechanic for repairs. A year later, the vehicle was overheating again from the engine and an abnormal odor was coming from the air vent. In addition, there was white smoke coming from the tail pipe. The vehicle was taken back to hardy Chevrolet where it was diagnosed that a new motor was needed. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

Got the car from drivetime on 04/25/16 from drivetime in highland Indiana. Not even 30 days when I was driving to go to work something popped up on my screen saying A/C cutting off due to engine over heating. I pulled over and called aeverex and pepboys and was told to not drive the car. Aeveree donex had to have a tow company come and have the car towed which my car was in the shop for 2 to 3 days because they didnt have the part. Got my car back on 5/17/16. I have a list of things that had to be done to the car. Now the car is doing the same thing again. A/C cutting off due to over heating. Looked under the hood and the coolant is leaking and the reservoir is empty. It didnt give off no noticed that something was wrong with this car the car. Im taking this car to the shop once again for the same problem. I looked online and come to find out the 2011 Chevy Cruze has a recall on the Cruze due to coolant leaking. I also had taken it to the shop and was told it was the water pump which I already had it replaced once. I also emailed the GM and explained my issue and was told that their was no recall on my car which I find to be untrue. Something is wrong with this car. I also have the papers from pep boys on what was done the 1st time. Once I get it to the shop tommorow I will update what was done again.

After starting the vehicle and driving forward the dash screen started to show different "check" warnings. Check stability control, check power steering. The check engine light came on as so did most of the dash indicator lights. The power steering stopped and the engine temporarily quit. The engine responded again and while driving the dash went dark and the car died. I had to turn the ignition off and restart the car. This is the third time this has occurred. The last event was while driving through a parking lot.

2011 Chevy Cruze transmission problem. Occasional hesitation accelerating, clunking jerking transitioning through gears accelerating or slowing down while driving on city streets and highway. Tried to accelerate on highway and car took a long while to get up to speed while other cars behind me were honking horns for me to speed up. Dealer says all is fine and that's just how the transmission and turbo engine is! can never duplicate this problem. Now no longer under warranty, the dealer is willing to keep the car for a longer period. GM says it would "see" what they could do after the dealer physically inspects the transmission at my cost. The dealer charges $145. Per hr. Labor rate!! I went to another mechanic and had them change the transmission fluid because the dealer said the fluid doesn't need and he said it was black! had it changed after I read complaints on carcomplaints.com. I am just afraid that it will quit on me while traveling at high speed! I can't afford to spend money on a new trans if I will continue to have the same problems. GM should have a full recall on the 2011 Cruze. The car had only 29,000 mi. On it the first time I complained and now it has 69,000 and the problem manifests itself a little more frequently but not on a weekly basis. I am at my wits end and the problem is not in my head. People are in danger and GM isn't "owning" this problem. Extremely disappointed. I've maintained this vehicle faithfully with oil changes, etc. Since day one...responded to all recalls. Not going to dealer again. Always have something to repair or replace.
