CarComplaints.com Notes: What’s that smell – it’s a tad sweet with a tinge of chemical toxicity? If you own a 2011 Cruze it’s probably a coolant leak. It’s a widespread and notorious problem for the car and is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of New York. And that’s not the only problem 2011 owners face…

Many say the 2011 model year suffers from a throttle lag that is probably due to a fauly electronic throttle control. The problem is signifigant enough that some owners say they are too scared to drive their cars. Those that do get behind the wheel often say their transmission isn’t shifting properly and problems start occuring as early as 15,000 miles.

All of this leads us to say you’re probably better off without this car’s headaches (they’re probably chemically-induced anyway).

Cruze LTZ 1.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 119,500 miles

Check engine light on. Error Code P0087. Many people report same issue with overheating/coolant flow issue. I added more coolant and change a sensor. Will report if it does any good but I doubt it will.

Cruze 2LT

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Besides that I had only owned the car for about 3 months when this happened. The lying dealer that sold it to me said it was under recall and would be free. Then they call me and say, ooops, no it's not, it's going to cost about $900. Then I go to pay and they say, oh, that $900 was before tax and they charged me $80 to replace the windshield wipers on top of that. (something that can be done for about $20-30 even if you use the expensive rain-x wipers).

Cruze LS 1.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 57,000 miles

This vehicle, my 2011 Chevy Cruz, is the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. I have owned five Chevy vehicles; two beings brand new. This will undoubtedly be the last.

In the four years and 57,000 miles that I've owned it;

- the shifter has fallen apart completely - the entire throttle body needed to be replaced - components of the entire have fallen apart inside the engine leading to coolant draining completely - two tire sensors have died - the engine thermostat has needed to be replaced - two coolant sensors needed to be replaced

It was just in the shop a month ago with a 500 dollar job for the cooling system and the check engine light is on again with codes relating to the cooling system.

Stay away from this vehicle like the plague.
