MY CORVETTE STINGRAY IS A 2016 Z51. I USE IT SPARINGLY AND MY CORVETTE IS USUALLY COVERED IN MY GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME (ONLY HAVE APPROX. 6,200 MILES). SINCE MY OFFICE VEHICLE NEEDED REPAIR, I HAD TO USED MY CORVETTE FOR A FEW DAYS. ON THE SECOND DAY OF PARKING MY CORVETTE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN FRONT OF MY OFFICE, IN THE SUN, I NOTICED THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED AT THE TOP CORNER OF THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. A ROCK DID NOT HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING, WHICH WAS IN TOWN ONLY DRIVING ONLY.
IT WAS A STRANGE CRACK BECAUSE, UPON RUNNING YOUR FINGER ANYWHERE ON THE CRACK IT WAS SMOOTH AND APPARENT THAT THE CRACK WAS ON THE INTERIOR SIDE OF THE CAR. I DECIDED TO GOOGLE CORVETTE WINDSHIELD CRACKS AND FOUND A CORVETTE FORUM WHERE SEVERAL CORVETTE OWNERS COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AT THE SAME LOCATION. THE WEBSITE IS NAMED, "CORVETTE FORUM". THE INDICATION IS THAT SLAG FROM WELDING IN THE FACTORY, AT THE LOCATION WHERE CRACKING IS OCCURRING, IS CAUSING THE CRACKING FROM THE INSIDE OF CAR. ALL I KNOW IS IT IS A CURIOUS CRACK SINCE IS OCCURRING FROM THE INSIDE.
IT IS ALSO AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM, COSTING $947.30 TO CHANGE THE WINDSHIELD. SOME OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THE FORUM IS THAT WITHIN MONTHS OF CHANGING THE WINDSHIELD THE CRACK OCCURRED AGAIN.
