I purchased this vehicle from the original owner. It has been about a year and 1/2 and I now notice the smell of gasoline in my garage. My other vehicle is a 2018 Rav4 and it does not have any gas leakes or any gas smells. After searching for a leak, I turned to Corvette forum, which has a discussion on fuel leaks in the 2008 model year Corvette and that this is a very common problem with the Corvette.

When the gas tank is 1/2 full or more with fuel, there is a leak which deposits raw gas on the top of the gas tank, from which it drips or evaporates. I consider this leak a fire hazard as the exhaust pipe runs very close to the tank that shows gas has leaked down the side, and urge NHTSA to require a recall to fix the problem. GM needs to recognize that this is a serious problem and some Corvettes will probably catch on fire and possibly cause a death.

I now have to park my Corvette outside so the fumes do not fill my garage that has a hot water heater located in the garage that could cause a fire. Thank you for your prompt attention to my request.

Started smelling gas odor in my garage in July 2018... never saw any gas on ground or dripping out. Could not figure out where it was coming from due to having several cars and gas powered equipment in the garage. After filling up my Corvette the end of July the smell got worse... Figured out it was coming from the car but thought it was from being overfilled.

Left town for 2 weeks in Aug. 2018 and upon return the smell was gone. Started driving the car again in late Aug and the smell returned... continued to get worse during September 2018. Because I did not see any fuel leaking I was thinking it was a vapor issue.. By the end of September I found a page on Corvette site about how the fuel pump cracks at the elbow and fuel leaks out when the car is running.

I finally figured out what was causing the gas smell in my garage.. Notified Chevy and was told to bring to a dealer for an inspection. Dealer confirmed leaking pump needed to be replaced at HUGE cost. GM is refusing to cover it because their "special coverage" on it had expired weeks before I called them even though though the problem started months before while it was still under coverage.

This should be a RECALL!! Highly dangerous fuel leak because of defective plastic on the pump and they are refusing to cover the very expensive repair cost. I'm still fighting with GM over a claim on this...

I have had what I would call minimal problems with my corvette except for the following issues. It started smelling like gasoline every time I filled it up several years ago. The garage would reek of fuel. We had a couple of small gas cans in our garage and at first and we attributed the smell to those. We moved them out of the garage and the smell continued. After the Vette did not have such a full tank of gas it would not smell as bad. We tolerated it for a while then it started to get worse.

Since my extended warranty with Van Chevrolet had expired due to years not miles, I decided to take my Vette to a dealership closer to home, AutoNation Superstition Springs. They offered to do the sensor replacement and gas tank removal for less. They only charged me $1,198.34. They also suggested some additional maintenance that was required such as my transmission control and knob plus sway bar links which were noisy. So I ended up spending $2,547.80. My Vette had 51,108 miles on it. This was on December 8, 2015.

Since that repair the gas fume smell got much worse. We started to wonder if it was because of the gas tank replacement AutoNation did. On June 23, 2016 we took our Vette back to AutoNation for an oil change and to talk about the worsening gas smell. They had the same mechanic who did the passenger gas tank replacement look at it. Later that day I got the news that my driver's side gas tank has a leak and has to be replaced or possibly the fuel pump and something else I can't remember the name of may break when the pull the gas tank off to determine the true cause of the gas leak. They bid the repair at about $2,400 if it is the fuel pump or $3,000 if it is the gas tank. I drove my car home and parked it in the garage devastated. I had a few days to think about it because I parked the Vette in our detached RV garage and am driving another car for now. The RV garage is 24' wide by 48' long with 18'ceilings. The entire V garage now reeks of gasoline worse than it ever has and I am afraid to even start my Corvette now.

I have been and still am going viral on GM and exhausting every avenue I can. This is a safety defect which should have been recalled as many others have stated on various forums and websites. I want GM to DO THE RIGHT THING and fix my car at their expense.

I noticed a strong smell of gasoline when my 2008 Corvette is parked in the garage, usually with the tank fairly filled. I found other people in your website with the same complaint. I took it to my mechanic and he hoisted the car up and there was gasoline dripping and an oily sludge on the platform holding the driver's side fuel tank. He could not find the leak in his gas station and suggested I take the car to the dealer who is working on now. I imagine this is going to be an expensive repair, probably in the range of $2600 or more. My mechanic suggested not driving the car until it is fixed because of the gasoline leak and the danger of an explosion.

Since then I have replaced a transmission and two water pumps. Fortunately these were covered under the vehicle service contract we purchased that we still have coverage on. The car now has a strong gas odor smell when left overnight in our garage for about a month. The smell seems to be getting stronger. The smell is so strong that I actually make sure our cat can't get into the garage because Im afraid the gas fumes will kill her!

The smell isn't on the inside the cockpit area. I noticed the smell is strongest by the driver side rear fender well. It seems this is a problem that has occured several times as noted by your website. After further research through corvette forum blogs and youtube I have a good idea that it is a defective fuel pump/fuel tank. I feel this is a safety issue and my wife understandabley, is having anxiety issues driving the car until it gets resolved. I set an appointment up with the local dealer. They seemed familiar with the C-6 fuel smell issues but told me that I would have to authorize the repair with no guarantee if they couldnt find the leak even though they are famaliar with my vehicle service contract.

I have a problem with this based on the fact that the problem exists,is well documented and is a safety issue. I am not interested in the car catching fire to prove that there is a problem and hope General Motors feels the same. My wife babies this car but the hassle factor of owning this car is beginning to wear thin on me.
