exhaust valve parted fell into cyl knocking hole in block
one of the exhaust valves parted just below the valve guide at 60,000 miles on my 2008 Z06 with the LS 7.0L engine. it happened like when I was driving normal going onto interstate highway at approx. 60mph around 3000 rpm dropping the valve into the cylinder destroying the piston and knocking a hole in the side of the block. this happened in Oct 2015 and I am in the slow process of building a replacement engine. When I checked the corvette forum and discovered this is a common problem with C6 Z06 owners happening with lower mileage cars I realized this was probably caused by the defective valve guides for this engine I purchased this Z06 with 32,000 miles in 2012 and did not drive this car very hard which is why it made to 60,000 miles long block for this car costs more than $12,000.00 and additional cost to install it in my Z06 which I could not afford due to high cost of engines. I am slowly purchasing piece by piece a new engine for the last two years and hope to have the engine completed and install and back to running sometime in 2018 with cylinder heads that have the valve guide problem resolved by installing correct new guides with correct alignment and tolerances which I had done at Texas Speed and Performance in Georgetown Texas for an additional $1500.00 I hope that GM will make good on this obvious problem and reimburse all Z06 owners that have had this same problem and have had to replace engines on their Z06 I plan to keep informed on this lawsuit regarding this defect and any recall that GM may agree to, for resolving this obvious factory defect
