This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The Body Control Module has failed and there are no replacement parts available except used parts. The BCM is hard coded with the VIN. If you use a BCM from another car, certain safety systems are deactivated such as the air bags. The BCM is central to the electronic architecture so all other systems are at risk. The unit can be responsible for the car not starting, the headlights not working, the power windows and door locks failing, or in my case the active suspension not functioning. Since BCM's are widely used, this is a looming major safety issue for the nation because GM quit making new ones, no one else makes these parts, no one can repair the units. I know a number of C6 Corvette owners are using used parts which deactivates the air bags and the security system.
The airbag indicator light on the dash of the vehicle periodically lights up indicating a fault with the system. The car was checked by a dealer who could find no issue. The light resets if you cycle the vehicle on/off, but the problem returns randomly when driving the vehicle. The airbag system disabling itself without warning puts the driver at risk of not having the system deploy under conditions it should. The system resetting the warning to every on/off cycle is also misleading because unless you experience the behavior there is no reliable way to know that there is an issue with the SRS system on the vehicle.
The airbag warning light comes on when there is only the driver in the vehicle. When there are two people in the vehicle the airbag warning light goes off. I have had this checked at an independent Corvette mechanic and he says the parts are very expensive and not available at this time. I was wondering if you could tell me if this is a problem that has been reported by other Chevy owners" Where can I go to get parts" There has been no injury or accident. I would like for my airbags to work properly. In case of an accident lack of airbags could be a problem.
Warning light that indicates an airbag system malfunction comes on intermittently for no reason. Occurrs when vehicle is not being driven, but lights when you start the car. Thia ia a serious safety issue since the airbags wont deploy when it's lit. Car only has 13,000 original miles on it.
Airbag warning light comes on and off intermittently. After reading all over and trying to figure what's wrong it appears to be a wide spread issue. It happens at random times, slow speed around town or driving at highway speeds. What I don't like is it disable's the airbag when the airbag when on. Thank you
Airbag idiot light came on and stays on. There is no obd code set. Car was stationary in parking lot and was fine, came out to restart it after shopping and the warning light on the dash came on, and stayed on. Other owners seem to be reporting very similar if not identical failures,
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. While driving 65 mph, the passenger side air bag deployed without warning or impact, which was a safety concern. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to mccluskey Chevrolet (9673 kings auto mall rd, cincinnati, oh 45249, (513) 761-1111) where it was diagnosed that the air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,506.
Airbag readiness light comes on intermittently. Seems to occur while the drivers seat is adjusted back and forth but not sure. There are hundreds of complaints about this in 2005-2007 Corvettes. It occurs both stationary and in motion.
Depending on the position of the drivers seat the airbag indicator on the dash will indicate that the airbags are disabled. In the event of an accident if the airbags did not deploy it could result in serious injury or death. No event has yet to happen for my vehicle, but I feel unsafe knowing that the airbags have a defect that may result in them not being deployed.
Dealers refuse to repair vehicle stating the extended special coverage has expired. Airbag light will not shut off due to wire harness problem and GM knows about the problem. I tried to get the car repaired but local dealer did not have the parts. And the coverage expired.. I receive the notice in May 2016. My car met the mileage standard, less than 120 K miles and within 10 years of ownership.
Dash airbag service light periodically illuminated. This condition (to date), has not resulted in logging any diagnostic fault codes, I.e.; dtc(s) B0012, B0013, B0016, B0016, B0019, B0020, B0022, B0023, B0026, B0033, B0040, B0042 or B0044, this illuminated service light fault is only rectified when either; a) I manually re-positioning the driver's seat until the light turns off, or B) I physically re-positioning the yellow (side-airbag) connector located under driver's seat. Either method results in only a temporary resolve, before the problem occurs again. I assume this issue could also be true for the passenger seat too. By service notice / VIN#, GM acknowledges a potential / real airbag issue in my vehicle, dated May 2016. Based on the referenced May 2016 GM service notice, and further substantiated via phone communication, GM requires that a specific diagnostic fault code be present before GM will cover any service coasts to resolve this issue. This, while knowing the existence of an impending safety issue, described in the May 2016 service notice, is uniquely independent of any requirement there must be a diagnostic fault code detected. GM needs to accept ownership of this acknowledged well described issue. In this instances, GM shifts coast responsibility for this potential/real safety issue to the car owner. My research indicates that this issue is not unique to the Chevrolet C6 Corvette, but rather systemic throughout GM model types. Current dealer estimate charges to perform fault diagnostics only (no fault code present), is > $290, plus tbd addition repair coasts. What's wrong with this scenario?
Airbag light on constantly. Never turns off. So airbag is not working. This is a life or death situation that is gms responsibility. I have researched it and it is a very widely known problem that they refuse to repair. How many deaths is too many?
Airbag light on dash turns on and off intermittently while the car is in motion. Speed does not effect the problem. Problem reported to GM dealer and they replaced drivers seat belt tensioner after about 100 miles of travel problem returned. Am very concerned air bags will not function in the event of an accident
Air bag disengaged light on dash comes on when hitting a bump. Not sure whether airbags are really not working or not. Code shows seat belt tension at fault.
The air bag warning light comes on and goes off intermittently as you drive. Speed really has no effect on when. Has come on/off as low as 20mph or as high as 80mph.
The airbag light comes on often. I have found that this is a very common problem for all C6 Corvettes (2005 through 2013). The problem is the connector under the drivers seat. If it is zip tied tightly by the owner, the light will go out for a while. When it comes back on, the zip tie must be replaced to get the connections to work again. Bad connector should be recalled in my opinion. Worried that when the light come on that the air bags are disabled. Very dangerous.
