This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Over two weekends in a row in December, my car failed to start after sitting idle for no more 3 days. I took it in to two different dealers (one for each event) and they couldn't find the problem. Each dealer questioned if I had put it in reverse as instructed, and since I've had the car almost 2.5 years, I told both of them clearly I know the procedure to follow.
Car was shut down as per instructions...with gear in reverse and hand brake on. After only 6 days of inactivity the car was completely dead. I had to gain entry via the emergency hatch access. Battery showed zero volts.
Dead battery syndrome. After setting for a few days the battery on this car drains to a point of not being able to start the car. There is a very detailed shut down sequence for this 6 speed manual transmission car that seems to be the culprit. However, I have had the car to the local dealership 3 times and they have yet to be able to find the problem. I have been stranded 5 times in 10 months because of this problem.
