The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. While reversing the vehicle at 5 mph, the service active handling sensor and traction control warning indicators illuminated. It was diagnosed that the body control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred two weeks later. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10V172000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,757.

Car spun the back tires when making a right hand turn in front of on coming traffic. What happened next was I took my foot off the gas pedal and corrected the car at the same time the active handing applied the front brakes to lockup and would not disengage. I messed with the brake pedal for about 30 seconds & they disengages & I went about 200 feet going straight & the right front brake applied to lockup & the same thing I had to mess with the brake pedal & it released. I never shut the car off & as I resumed driving I could feel the steering was not right it felt like the variable assist steering though the car was going way fast (the steering was way to heavy). I went about 2 miles like this and it did not change. I pulled over & shut the car off & restarted it & the problem was gone. As this was happening the dic was displaying service active handling. That was the only time this has happened to me. It has not happened again. Nothing has been done to fix it yet.

2005 Corvette--service active handling system light came on, warning me of a problem. Before any service could be done the vehicles right front wheel locked up causing me to be out of control and veering to the right. I had it repaired by the dealer and several weeks later received a safety recall for the identical problem. The dealer checked the vehicle in accordance with the recall and indicated that I had the repairs done at my expense prior to the recall. I filed for reimbursement and was denied because the repair was not for a clip, but for the sensor. However, the symptoms are identical to the recall. Furthermore no clip was replaced by the dealer. They indicated only that the recall situation was taken care of previously at the owners expense.

My 2005 Corvette C-6 coupe has been periodically giving "active handling system" warnings. The dealer couldn't find any reason for the problem but did replace the "computer" module just prior to the warranty expiring. The problem seemed fixed for a while then started again about a year ago. The warning comes on almost every time I drive the car now. Reading some of the other complaints on this subject makes me fear driving the vehicle.

I have had tow incidents where my "service active handling" error has come up. Last week I had my wheels lock up after trying to complete a U turn and had to pull over and restart my car to correct the braking issue as best as I can describe it was corrected. Subsequently the "service active handling" has come on a number of times and clears as the car is restarted. I have taken it in and they are able to correct the problem but have yet to find a solution from it occurring again. I have had to use my extended service contract to cover the expenses both times.

Prior to the incident I experienced the service traction light would come on maybe a handful of times a month. Until the incident I had to actual issues and figured that my exhaust being as loud as it is caused something to set it off. On February 8th the service traction light came on once again however I had to issues that day. It wasn't till the next day that as I was driving normal speeds about 35mph approaching a stop sign before I would enter the feeder road to enter the highway. The road I was on had a very slight curve to the left and the ground was completely dry/ all conditions were normal. Out of no where I felt my vehicle being forced hard to the left as if I was hydroplanning and had lost the ability to control the braking of my car. My vehicle crossed the next lane over and with absolutely no control what so ever I was forced over a curb and into a street sign. No one was injured as it was a minor accident however it came with a price. At this point there is estimated to be $6500 in damages to my vehicle due to this. No work has begun on my vehicle. I have understood that this is a problem being investigated on other Chevrolet Corvette models from 05 and up under investigation number EA09-002. I would like to better understand what has happened and be sure that my vehicle is safe as it was very frightening to have lost control in perfectly good driving conditions. Like I have earlier stated my vehicle has not started the repair process and I will be sure to inform Chevy of my discovery so that this potentially life threatening issue becomes fixed.

Severe swerve to the left followed by service active handling warning light illuminated. Brakes lock up during swerve. Shutting down active handling does not help as the same error can occur very quickly again. This happens repeatedly, and more so at colder temperatures.

While slowing to make a left hand turn when the vehicle stalled/stopped temporarily...could have caused collision if the stall/stop happened a second later when I would have been in the opposing land. It has happened twice. I had the car repaired at edwards Chevrolet in birmingham. I was told by them that a wire in the steering column had corroded.

On 2005/06 Corvette the telescoping steering wheel sensor shorts out causing the traction control system to fail locking up the gear shift and other problems. Service bulletin 06-02-35-002 explains the corrective action and a part if available to correct the problem. However, it doesn't work. System still fails making the car inoperable, and always at the most importune time. According to the forums, this is a very common problem. Chevrolet needs to issue a recall and fix it permanently.

My service active handling light came on 11/13/09.on 11/14/09 I was traveling across a bridge at 55 miles per hour when my brakes and steering locked up. I had no control of the vehicle. I eventually slid to a stop causing traffic behind me to swerve into the next lane. I could barely get the car off the road because the brakes would not release. This is a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette with 33,000 miles. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was told the steering sensor inside the steering column was bad and needed to be replaced and the wires needed to be checked and re tightened. This could have been more severe or even fatal if not for the time of day and the amount of traffic. I could not believe something so dangerous was not recalled. I am sure others have had this problem and crashed their cars and had no idea what happened, if not for my quick reactions or luck, I might have ran off the bridge and killed myself or injured someone else. That would be the first thing I checked on any 2005 Corvette that had an unexplained crash where the driver simply lost control. I was not accelerating or doing anything out of the ordinary when my incident occurred. The repair cost me $612, costly for what appears to be an engineering flaw. I am not exaggerating when I say he vehicle was completely out of my control! this is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed. I don't believe that Chevrolet or any dealership should profit from this life threatening defect.

While traveling at a speed of approximately 45 miles per hour on a two-lane paved highway, the car voluntarily locked the left front brake for a period of approximately 5 seconds. Car slid forward (suppose to be turning right) into left traffic lane. Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic and therefore no serious damage to vehicle. Just prior to this action, the car displayed a message, "service active handling system."

I have experienced several brake lockups at very low speeds usually while trying to leave a parking spot or other times when the steering wheel is fully turned to the right or left. Once I start to move, the brakes engaged and will not allow the car to move and the active handling indicator comes on the display. All of these slow speed issues were simply "fixed" by restarting the car, yesterday I was driving at 60mph on a highway and my brakes engaged and the car jerked to the right side of the road and I fought to keep it on the road as the active handling came on again. The brakes pulsated until he car was completely stopped in the road. The weather was sunny and 70 degrees, the road was a fairly new and smooth asphalt. The car took complete control and I was in medium traffic. I am thankful that I was not pulled to the left into oncoming traffic. The cars to the rear of me had no idea that I was stopping and I was almost hit from behind. After the car came to an abrupt stop in traffic on the highway, I could not move it off of the road as the brakes would engage and "active handling" was displayed if I tried to move it. I shut the car off and restarted it and the problem seemed to go away. I pulled off at the next stop and disabled the active handling system.
