The steering coulmn box locked up when I had it in reverse and backing out of a parking spot.. I had it towed to Chevy dealership to have the 98 vette worked on. I was told I had to replace the steering box. Which was a $270 part. If I was driving on the interstate and the steering locked up on me. Then what?. thank you for your time. Ref. In EA02-031
GMC issued a recall for this problem, my VIN was not covered, so GMC said I had to pay, even though my car has the same problem with the same failed part, my VIN is very close to those affected. No safety defect mentioned.
The dealer denied of any recall, and said that I was mistaken in thinking there was a recall. It's real sad that our local Chevy dealer isn't even aware there's a recall! no safety defect listed within summary.
