Gm is passing on their responsibility onto the customer. They knew that the 8-speed transmission in the Chev Colorado was defective.

Colorado LT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,600 miles

@ 1600 miles the Truck started vibration on the highway when coasting hardly touching the gas. Then when you slightly give it gas it shudders like the engine is running too low for 8th gear, Like the torque converter doesn't make the trans shift up. If you have driven stick, it's like you trying to accelerate in 5th and you should be in second.

If I push down on the gas and she drops a gear or 2 it's fine till it changes back into 8th. It gets worse as she gets hotter, then just slowing down and making a turn then accelerate again she starts shuddering again. Also when staying at the same speed and there is a slight incline in the road she does it over and over. I shouldn't have to mash down on the gas pedal to stop it doing that. Now at 3040 Miles she's getting worse.

Update from Jun 30, 2019 Sorry I mistyped, it's a 2017

Colorado Z71 2.8L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,850 miles

2019 Colorado Diesel - I got at 2500 miles and it's now at 3400 miles. Got vibration in it after it shifts into high gear - it vibrates and is not a smooth ride. If you slightly touch peddle or let off of it, it gets worse. I have had 3 different sets of tires, rebalanced 5 times, and still the same problem. The dealer even put some other factory rims and tires on it - same problem. Factory says check motor mount or just drive it. This is not a good answer. Dealer is going to check motor and transmission mounts on Nov 13th - I will update from there.

Truck has 14000 miles and just turned a year old. Began to have slight vibration while on highway driving. Thought it may be tires and had the balance checked and all was good, no issues with balance. Truck began to get worse in the next few weeks. Drive to work about 80 miles a day total, all highway. Problem has worsened in last week to severe at speeds between 20 - 65 mph. When backing off throttle stuttering/vibration goes away. When a slight throttle occurs the transmission begins to stutter and vibration is felt throughout the entire truck, pedals, seat etc. I see this has been an issue since at least 2016 with this model truck and not sure if it has been solved. Plan to take in in for service next week.

Heard so much about the Colorado 8-speed shudder that I didn't want to believe it. The past few days i have been feeling like i was running over speed strips and I attributed it to bad roads but today I was driving on smooth, new road with my family and I got the vibrations between 48 and 60mph while I was lightly accelerating.

Colorado LT Crew Short Box 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles

Transmission shudder that was growing worse every day. Shudder was occurring between 30 and 60 miles an hour and seemed to be most noticeable when doing slow acceleration. The vehicle was purchased eight months ago. Took the vehicle to Dealer where purchased and initially they said they were familiar with the problem in other 2019 Chevy Colorados and it was usually fixed with a transmission flush. About 15 minutes later they came back and said their diagnostic check revealed it could not be resolved with a flush and requested the vehicle be left to be examined by their transmission guy. After two days I called Dealer and was told "transmission guy" was still trying to determine what was wrong with the vehicle.

As of today, 7/29/2020 no resolution or diagnosis has been made by dealership. Having already read similar complaints about this problem and this particular model I am not encouraged. Will follow up with results.

I drive on the highway every weekend and the shaking that occurs scares me. I traded in my Trax because it kept freezing up every winter and now I have a Colorado and am having issues already. When I travel at higher speeds is when I notice it. I brought it in and the useless service department thought it was the tires and adjusted my air. Then I took my son for a drive and he was the one who said it was the transmission. My RPM's go all over and I burn gas quicker. I have an appointment at the dealership and have contacted GM who claims that they nothing of these issues.

I am incredibly frustrated and scared to drive this vehicle on the highway if there is no fix to the problem. GM keeps putting my safety at risk as I drive alone often and drive in parts of Manitoba with no cell service and onstar does not work where I travel.

I never had this looked at as it seems there is no solution to the issue. I traded truck in to another manufacturer. I've been a lifelong Chevy person, but with known issues that are ignored, I can no longer purchase.

Colorado ZR2 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,200 miles

EXPENSIVE TRUCK- Transmission shutter/hesitates on acceleration between 5-10 mph and 45-55mph. Truck lunges forward when slowing down and brake is applied. These problems are intermittent. Have had the truck to the dealer 3 times before owning it for one year. Third time dealer put "courtesy inspection" in the problems category. Shady!

Colorado Z71 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,500 miles

Purchased this 2019 Colorado to be my retirement truck after 3 Chevy leases. Started noticing shuddering issue on long trip to visit my son thinking it was in the suspension and after going over small bumps. After a while determined it was between 40-65mph whenever I slightly accelerated I would get the shudder. I can now make it happen at will. Brought to dealer today and was told they had to keep it overnight and that Chevy knows there is a problem with the transmission, they are going to change fluid and make me drive 200 miles to see if this solves the problems. After reading this site and seeing all the similar issues I don’t have a good feeling. Very surprised there is no recall as my dealer sounded familiar with the problem. I will update after attempted repair is made ...should have kept leasing!!!! Ps I have only driven chevys for over 25 years!

Colorado WT 4 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 300 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Chevy suggested that I find another Colorado w/6 speed manual tranny to compare it too, to see if there was a distinct vibration in 3rd gear. No local dealers have one in stock and there is no motivation for them to get one. I was actually told by my Senior Advisor that since there were no comparisons they were going to close my case. The advisor (my third one) will not return my calls. Her supervisor asked for two weeks to find a solution.

I suggested that they (1) have Chevy pay to transport a vehicle to my local dealer for a test drive OR (2) they find me an exact copy of my vehicle without any of the five (5) complaints I have and we do a even exchange. I called this supervisor several times last week. She never answered her phone or returned any of my calls. Last Friday I asked to speak to her manager/supervisor. I was promised a call back or an e-mail this morning before 10:30 A.M. As I write this it is 11:30 A.M. still no call.

The other problems: Engine revs after disengaging cruise by putting shifter in neutral and coasting. Rear door (extended cab) shows as being open. Service manager says to "slam" door when closing. Turn key...no start. 12 times in 2000 miles One time couldn't turn truck off. One time with key in my hand, ding ding etc. as a reminder to take key out of ignition.

Going to call GM help line to get status...

Update from Dec 29, 2019: All problems still as reported (still looking for a 2019 WT with six speed manual for comparison purposes). No change with cruise control problem (looking for similar truck). No start problem still happening (no codes so they don't know where to look). Dealer where I purchased truck had it for four days (adjusted door...better until it got cold). No thoughts on transmission or no start). Dealer working to get radio fixed (replaced radio once and touch screen 3 times still turns itself off or freezes etc. No codes, not willing to take a serious look at transmission. Not willing to do reinstall "all" software controlled sections that may be involved. W/O codes they don't know where to start. I don't know what avenues I have available to me to get help.Chevrolet Customer Assistance has no authority to get anything done. They also don't, in my opinion, have the technical capability to help wit solutions ( they came up with ME finding a similar truck for comparison. You would think they could find one on a lot somewhere and have that service department do a test drive.

Nov 302018

Colorado WT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125 miles

I had the truck less than 2 weeks and it was in the service dept for repairs at Bouche Chevrolet. they replaced the fluids and returned the truck saying if it happened again ( the shuddering while accelerating) to bring it back. Within a month it started doing it again, so I scheduled another appointment. When I scheduled the appointment they said they might have to replace the torque converter. When I went to the appointment they said all they can do is replace the fluids again due to Chevy had a bulletin out about the problem and would have a fix early spring of 2019.

So they replaced the fluids again and the problem came back OF COURSE. Brought it back a third time and they put a heavier fluid in and now when driving in heavy traffic (5 o clock freeway traffic) it downshifts hard sometimes!

New Colorado with around 500 miles on the truck, I start notice a loud vibration at 35 or more MPH. I go to the dealer and they replace the transmission oil, for now is good. They say to me wait around 200 miles for the problem fixed complete.

Colorado Z71 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 350 miles

I BOUGHT THE TRUCK 11/30/18 IT SHUDDERED A COUPLE OF TIMES ON THE WAY HOME, BUT I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS ANYTHING SERIOUS. THE SHUDDER HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN TO ALMOST A CONSTANT PROBLEM . I FINALLY TOOK IT IN FOR A SERVICE CALL 3/5/19 (2100 MILES0 AND THE MANAGER SAID THEY WILL CHANGE TRANNY FLUID WHEN THEY GET IT IN (FLUID). THAT WAS THREE WEEKS AGO AND I'M STILL WAITING. IF CHANGING THE FLUID DOESN'T CORRECT THE SHUDDER HE SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER. IT'S AN 8 SPEED TRANNY.

Colorado LT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 550 miles

Bought this vehicle new 7 days ago. At 550 miles I started to experience the well known shudder. While maintaining speed on the highway, or during light acceleration, there is a loud vibration sound that feels and sounds like driving over rumble strips. This is very disappointing out of a brand new vehicle with 550 miles on it. I have made an appointment with the selling dealer's service department. From what I have read, GM is developing a new fluid that is supposed to remedy this. I'm hoping this can be resolved soon, but apparently this has been going on for several years with various GM models. I worry that the vibration is doing damage to my transmission.
