I have a 2015 chevy colorado and after I reached 49.000 miles. I heard a humming noise from the transmission so. I took it to All American Chevrolet . after the mechanic told me that the transmission had to be replaced. and that it would cost me 3,000 dollars to fix it I did not know the warranty went out on Jan 6, 2020, the transmission cost 6,000 but GM is paying half of it. one would think they would put better parts in cars and trucks these days. in 2015 I had ordered the truck new. today the truck just turned 50.000 miles.

At 37,000 my chevy colorado starting slipping from 4th to 5th gear, had dealership look at it, said new transmission would be 6500 dollars installed and that there was no fix. I decided i would just find a used transmission or run till it quit. At 47,000 miles started making noise so had local transmission shop get me a used transmission that had 12000 miles on it. On this truck you have to take the passenger side wheel, spindle, wheel well, upper control arm, lower control arm, exhaust manifold, and remove starter just so you can get to the torque converter bolts so transmission can be removed. Poor engineering. No access to torque convertor bolts. So although my transmission was replaced with a low mile transmission the shutter problem does exist. The used transmission was 2100 installed. Transmission shop says that the transmissions they are working on are 6 to 1 chevy transmissions compared to ford or dodge. Chevrolet needs to get their act together. I have long been a chevy guy but not sure i will buy another.

It had been a while since I have owned a truck (rear wheel drive) and thought the revving before sluggish take off was a possible sensitivity to my new truck. I found out that this may have been likely related to a defective transmission that just died about 2 weeks ago. Since the first week I have not been able to get anyone to tell me how long the repair will take and at this point to contact me back.

Update from Sep 7, 2015: The issues before the transmission failure have continued after the (close to a month rebuild) The issues were reported to the dealership and then GM with no real response to date. The Transmission control module was updated - but nothing really changed. The issues have gotten worse and some of the symptoms are reported below:

Random gear shifts followed by sudden bursts of acceleration at slow speeds (normally in stop in go traffic - where I almost rear ended a motorcyclist)

slow acceleration - sluggish and random. between 15-40 mph

Feels like it's in wrong gear, some times bucks until I let off gas or it decides to shift (see sudden acceleration)

hood vibrates at highway speeds

sometimes at higher speeds the truck shudders slightly or vibrates "back and forth" - this one is new

truck is afraid of going up hills, and turns close to hills

random jump in RPMs for no known reason (no gear shift noticed)

Sometimes a clang is felt when either slowing or breaking- feels like drive shaft towards rear axle.

The final straw happened this weekend when the truck refused to accelerate while attempting to merge - almost resulting in a rear end by truck.

I REALLY hope they get this problem fixed - but I am too worried that my family will get hurt in the mean time.
