The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving 68 mph, the steering wheel seized and the stabilitrak and "power steering needs service" warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,535.

While driving home on my birthday at highway speeds the power steering noticeably failed. A message on the dashboard read "loss of electrical steering assist". I was close to home and near my exit, and was able to steer the vehicle home without power steering. At higher speeds it was barely tolerable, as I was not switching lanes; but in an emergency I would not have been able to. At slower speeds making turns was extremely difficult, and I am a man with strong arms. Had this occurred on a busy highway or congested road, the outcome could have been much worse for me and others around me. This is an extremely dangerous fault that has been recorded in similar GM trucks and recalls should be mandated for what may well be a very expensive fix if out of warranty. Estimated at over $2000.

While driving two different alarms flashes on dash screen; 1) "service stabilitrak" and 2) "service power steering, drive with care." Vehicle then lose power steering. I have learned that if I pull over, stop and turn vehicle off and then back on the alarms clear and I have power steering once again. I have noticed this situation while driving on flat highway and when vehicle is a little off balance such as on a dirt road. I have taken to the dealer, explained situation and referred dealer to comments online. Dealer stated the alarm history is clear and therefore they have no idea what to do. I purchased vehicle around September 2018 from dealer and this situation has happened approximately 18 times over 4 months or so. It has alarmed, I've cleared it and then alarm again in the same hour. It has also gone weeks without alarming..

My power steering will quit for no reason such as hard turns or rapid turning. The dash gives you a warning that this has occured. Shutting the ignition off resets it.when you turn the key to start the power returns to the steering.I have had it recalibrated but still have this happening. Dealer says it is out of warranty. Claims it is about 2000 bucks to fix. A recall for this problem was made for trucks made just after mine. I did not own the truck at that time. Should General Motors stand behind this problem?

While driving I received a service power steering message followed immediately by a service stabilitrak message and lost the ability to steer the vehicle. This hapenned 4 times at varying speeds, including while entering the highway and at low speeds driving down the road at approximately25 mph. After shutting off and restarting the vehicle, the problem clears and the power steering functions. I took it to my local Chevy dealer and was told it's an electrical short in some sensor in the steering column and it would cost me $1,800 to repair. The vehicle has only 44,500 miles on it and I purchased it new. It is no li ger under warranty.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving approximately 55 mph, "loss of steering assist" illuminated and the steering ability became extremely difficult. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the road shoulder and turned off the engine. The contact moved the key back and forth in the ignition switch without turning on the engine and the vehicle started normally. The contact stated that the failure occurred two other times. The vehicle was taken to camino real Chevrolet (2401 S atlantic blvd, monterey park, ca 91754) where it was diagnosed that the steering rack assembly needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 8-4885550097. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.

  • 52,000 miles
When in motion the trucks power steering stops working at random speeds making the vehicle difficult to steer. Took the vehicle to a GM dealer for diagnostic and repair. The technician explained that the code dtc-C0545 steering wheel torque sensor is faulty. Cost of repair $2100 I asked for the faulty parts and was informed I would need to pay for them as the dealer is required to send them back to GM because they are faulty. The vehicle has about 52,000 miles on it. This power steering failure would make it difficult to manage the vehicle at lower speeds therefore making the vehicle unsafe. The dealer/technician very strongly recommended the repair because the vehicle is unsafe to drive without this repair.

I'm constantly receiving the message "service power steering drive with care" then afterwards I receive the message "service stabilitrak". this message has continued to occur at random times while driving on a highway while driving 70+ mph. The steering wheel locks up and I have to physically strain to power the wheel to turn and pull over to shut the vehicle off for 10 seconds then turn it back on and the problem is gone. However the power steering continues to go out again at random times while driving lower speed limits through city streets. The problem with the power steering is continuous. I'm also having issues with the temperature control. My trucks heat will go out and only produce cool/cold air at random times. It will work then the heat will go out at random times. I have the gauges set to hi heat with full fan output and it only produces cool air. I'm unable to properly defrost the windows during cold temperatures due to lack of heat. Defrost fan options output is inaccurate as it can be on high output and turned one notch down and the fan speed is consistent with the lowest fan speed.

With vehicle in motion there are intermittent failures of the power steering assist and the stability track system. Both systems can be reset after engine shutdown and restart.

I have had a few instances where the power steering gave out while driving, I called the dealership and they said that the problem was fixed prior to selling me the vehicle and that it was not their issue. I feel at a loss, I think that if the issue with the recall is fixed, then the problem would not persist.

There is a low voltage signal associated with the power steering assist. There is a signal at the start of the vehicle warning the driver that power steering must be serviced. Dealership evaluated and proposed replacing the power steering module entirely and wanted to charge full value. This issue seems related to Chevy recall #15595 and the more recent GM recall of similar concern to the broader family of SUVS and trucks produced by GM. The lack of acknowledgement by the dealership and manufacturer of this issue is unsafe to the public.

Beware Chevy Colorado owners. Chevy issued a safety recall back in 2015 for power steering issues. I never received a notice probably because I was deployed with the military. My power steering went out so I took it to the Chevy dealership to fix under recall. The advisor told me that Chevy now puts a time frame (expiration) on all recalls, even safety ones, and that mine had expired. How can Chevy legally do this" they acknowledge a problem that they caused but now wont fix it?"

On Aug 7, 2018, while driving the power steer quit working causing a safety issue. The vehicle was in motion on a city street. The weather was dry. It would reset after restarting the vehicle and then quit again. It occurred 4 times. It was taken to the dealership and the "steering rack" was replaced. We called Chevrolet and worked with the dealership, but they stated that the vehicle has 51K miles and was 1 K over the warrantee.
