About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Engine Control module-PO442 leak detected and PO496 Evaporated Emission System Flow during non-purge. Also, Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module -1.B1425-03 Control module power circuit. When we fill the gas tank it takes multiple times to start And Stalls While Driving, almost causing accidents. We have diagnostic report by Firestone, Advanced Auto. First believed gas cap problem when started 2020-2021?Problem has become more constant to point of us not being comfortable driving far for fear of accident or getting stuck somewhere.
Power steering assist is occasionally lost and makes vehicles hard to manuver. If the car is turned off and restarted the problem is momentarily fixed but happens again at random.
The power steering system stopped working while the vehicle was in motion. The issue is identical to the issue noted under campaign 21V213000, and effects a 2015 model year vehicle, however my VIN was not included in the recall
Had 3 instances of loss of power steering while driving, first time at 5-10 mph, 4/2/2024, then on way home 2 times speeds approx. 45 mph. When checked with a vehicle diagnostic machine it was learned that I had a Loss Of Power Steering Assist. I was then informed that there was a recall for the same problem in 2021, however the recall was VIN specific, and my VIN was not part of the recall, yet it is the same problem. Extreme safety hazard and I've been quoted a fix/repair will cost approx. $3,500. Local dealership advised me to contact GM, who then advised me to contact NHTSA. Frustrating that there was a recall, and the publication does not show VIN specificity, recall # N202325410-01. Is there any chance of getting my VIN included added to the recall VIN's that were experiencing same problem and fixed.Thank you
While driving at any speed I lose steering assistance through electronic steering. Which makes steering very difficult. A warning comes on the dash, warning of Dangerous conditions

There were no previous issues of any kind until I tried to leave work one day. Two warning lights came on when I started the vehicle: "Service Power Steering, and Service StabiliTrak, drive with care". I tried backing out and could NOT turn the wheel. I had it towed to a mechanic the following day and found out that other 2015 Colorados have a recall on this exact part. Power steering could have gone out at any time while I was driving and the weight of the vehicle could have caused a serious accident, depending on when and where it happened, seeing as how I could not budge the steering wheel. I contacted Chevrolet and was told my vehicle "wasn't covered" under the recall. They had no desire to assist me in any way. The mechanic I took the truck to is having trouble ordering the part because it is on nationwide backorder. I wonder why? If they can even fix it, it will cost me close to two thousand dollars at this point, for a safety issue that should be covered by Chevrolet. Please help get this recall extended to every 2015 Colorado before someone dies.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the instrument cluster warning lights were dim. The contact stated while driving 75 mph there was a chiming sound heard. The wheels locked up and the vehicle pulled to the left. The power steering service message was displayed. The vehicle veered to the right and was uncontrollable. The contact was able to coast off the freeway. The contact contacted On-Star who referred her to the manufacturer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the failure was like NHTSA Campaign number: 16V054000 (Steering). The contact was concerned about driving the vehicle. The manufacturer's legal team was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
Just started driving my vehicle and went to turn and the steering went out, warnings -??Service Power Steering. Drive with care.-?? -??Service StabiliTrac-?? and -??Service Batter Charging System-?? came on and vehicle stopped. Attempts to turn it back on and -??jump-?? the battery were futile. Fortunately it was a Sunday with limited traffic. Had it been a busy day I could easily have been hit as my vehicle died in the middle of the road. My son, young male and was able to muscle the steering wheel to the edge of the road. Had it been an elderly driver, the situation could have been much different. Somehow, my VIN is not included in this well known issue with 2015 Chevy Colorados. Vehicle was towed to a dealership in Fayetteville, NC and, hopefully, will be looked at tomorrow. Vehicle is available for inspection. This is the first time this has happened. The truck drove fine prior to the problem. I have photos of the warning messages.
In our truck the power steering has been off and on since 2017. We called and visited multiple dealerships who admitted GMC/Chevy knows there is a problem but our vehicle vin was not associated with any fixes. Since April 2021 we have had zero power steering, also the stabilitrak light has always come on at the time of power steering loss. We have always had to use this truck for work and bought a 4 cyl for that exact purpose because its good on gas. I'm a nurse and travel sometimes 200+ miles daily for my job. I've had multiple near misses since the beginning of this problem and so has my husband, that could've ended very badly due to losing power steering in the middle of a turn etc. Well, my husband did have an accident January 15, 2021 when he had no power steering on a major highway. He was unable to evade a crash in front of him due to the steering loss. We are in an impossible situation and no dealership (they say this is an issue "way over dealership level") will help. GMC/ Chevy doesn't care, there is " no fix available" even though at May this year we have finally been added to the recall. WHY IS IT I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY OWN AND MY HUSBANDS LIFE WHENEVER ONE OF US HAS TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. The recall LITERALLY STATES driving will increase the risk of a crash. WHY IS IT OK" WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP US" PLEASE
While driving on an interstate, with a fair amount of traffic, the power steering assist failed with a message stating so. This incident happened while on a corner in a rain storm next to a tractor trailer. This put my safety at risk. Not only did that system fail, but so did the traction control system, along with non functioning speedometer, tachometer, and temperature gauge. This system is available for inspection, however it tends to clear itself and happen only when your driving the vehicle. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer as I will not drive it. I am in the process of contacting a dealer about the problem. There where no advanced warnings that the system reported prior to the system failing, after it failed then a message was displayed.
Key has been sticking in ignition, unable to remove. Ive kept the key in the ignition and the battery has needed jumped. Dealer tells me this is a very common problem on Chevy Colorados from 2015 and 2016 as I have now discovered on multiple Chevy forums.
This issue has been occurring since we purchased the vehicle in October of 2019. The vehicle will be traveling at various speeds at varius RPM's in various weather conditions. Vehicle symptoms as follows in order of occurrence: 1) engine will momentarily hesitate, 2) error code service stabilitrak will be presented on screen with service engine light and traction control light on 3)RPM gauge and spedometer gauge will go to zero 4) power steering system failure "drive with care" error code presents on screen 5) failure of power steering system occurs with no control of power steering system 6) driver will secure engine and computer system and wait 60 seconds 7) computer audibly resets with a click 8) engine will restart with 5-key turns 9) error will occur again sporadically these symptoms are extremely difficult to replicate and will sporadically occur, sometimes with a complete failure of the power steering system and other times with a failure ofthe stabilitrak system only. Driver believes that this is occuring due to malfunctioning steering gear.steering gear has been recalled previously for vehicle make/ model and year but truck does not fall under manufacture date.driver believes issue is related to recalled item on other vehicles. Driver has had vehicle serviced at three different locations for a total of 4 different visits. Jeff belzers in lakeville serviced vehicle twice and was in possession of vehicle for nearly 4 months trying to fix issue.replaced steering gear.belzers was also dealer who sold vehicle. (oct2019-feb2020 visit) Suburban Chevrolet service center in eden prairie visit once inconclusive (November 2019 visit) power Chevrolet service center in newport Oregon visit once inconclusive (July 2020 visit) driver is extremely worried about safety and drivability of vehicle and knows of several similar cases with vehicle.
I was driving around curve at approximately 45 mph and my power steering went out. I had very little control over steering at this point, but finally was able to navigate to the side of road. Had to turn truck off and then restarted, truck did same thing few miles down the road with notification of power steering failure. Few more miles and stabilitrack malfunction began being displayed. This is very dangerous, since you have very little steering control when this happens.
While driving at 70 mph power steering went out. Had immediate loss of control of the vehicle. Pulled over shut the vehicle down. Restarted the vehicle power steering returned.
The contact owned a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the ignition key seized in the ignition and was difficult to remove. The failure recurred. The contact called ray Chevrolet located at 39 N us-12, fox lake, il 60020, (847) 587-3300, and was informed to bring the vehicle in to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
2015 Chevrolet Colorado, Z71 trim, V6 gasoline engine the ignition key is at times stuck in the ignition with no reliable way for removal. The switch will turn far enough to shut down the engine, however the cylinder will not turn far enough back to allow for removal of the key. There are several problems related to this exact issue online, meaning this is not a "one off" type of problem. There is also a GM service bulletin covering this issue. Bulletin PI1429 multiple times we have had to leave the key in the ignition as it could not be removed. The local dealer was unhelpful when contacted. They were unsure of the problem, unsure if it would be covered under warranty, the estimated cost, or even able to find the bulletin after I gave them the number.
