I have a 2012 Chevy Colorado with surface rust developing on the frame. I contacted GM (sent photos with email) and brought the truck to a Chevy dealer, per request of GM, to verify the problem. Apparently, GM engineers concluded that the rust developing on the frame would not cause any problems. The dealer responded by saying they have brand new trucks on the lot with rust developing on the frames. GM and dealer closed the case.
This is not a solution to the problem and the rust will progress as time goes by. I still believe this progressive rust problem, in the long run, will cause major issues and expenses.
