My daughter was driving on the highway in los angeles when her power steering locked up. She barely made it over to safety. It could have been a catastrophe on the highway. It took all of her strength to try to move the wheel. She lost control over the car. When she tried to start the car up again, it seemed fine. She got off the highway and drove carefully. She would drive about 10 minutes at a time before it would lock up again. She had to drive through some really shady areas to get home since she couldn't drive on the highway. She took her car to a Chevrolet dealer who said that there was no recall on the 2009 Cobalts. There are on the 2010 for power steering. They charged her $139 just to diagnose what the problem is. She is waiting to see what is wrong. When she said that she had to have her car for work tomorrow, they were adamant that her car was too dangerous to drive because of the steering. This is such a dangerous hazard.

Power steering has gone out 3 times in the last day. After turning car off then on again power steering will work for a short period of time that varies. Recall 10V073000 seems to apply but dealer said it does not. Never received a recall notice even though my car falls under the year and model for the recall.
