CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Cobalt inherited most of the problems from the 2005 and 2006 model years, but toned them down (a bit). Sure, the power steering still fails and the car has a chance of going up in flames due to a cracked fuel tank, but it’s not as prevalent as the older models. At least not yet.
In 2012, the Cobalt was recalled for gas tank fires but only for owners in certain states.
Then in 2014, the 2007 Cobalt was part of a massive GM recall due to a defective ignition switch that could cause the airbags to not deploy during an accident. The problem led to 13 deaths, government investigations and multiple class-action lawsuits.

June 2014 had ignition lock cylinder & key and ignition switch replaced per RECALL 14E021000 done at Tim Lally Chevrolet. July 2014 took car back to Tim Lally as check engine, theft light and cluster gauges erratic. They found harness rubbed in couple spots and rerouted harness, taped harness, ran new wire loom to ECM and TCM. On October 10, 2016 I was seconds from home from when my power steering lights on dash
came on. I parked car on my street, turned car off then tried to restart. It didn’t let me turn the key to the start position so I tried removing the key and I couldn’t. After a couple attempts I was able to remove the key then I tried to start it again. This time key turned, but wouldn’t start. Couple more times of trying, the car started and all the gauges were freaking out, the power steering light, antitheft lock and check engine light came on. I tried to move the steering wheel and I couldn’t. I turned off the car but couldn’t remove key again so I went in the house to get my husband. After a couple of times of trying, he was able to remove key. He then inserted his key and tried to start the car in which he couldn’t turn it in the on position. He tried taking his key out and it got stuck for a minute like mine did. He eventually got it to turn & again the car wouldn’t start. Then he got it to start and all the lights came on & gauges erratic again. He couldn’t turn the steering wheel neither and when he attempted to shift out of park with foot on brake, car was making a click sound and it was hard to shift out of park. Towed the car the next day at my own expense to Tim Lally Chevrolet on Miles Road. Diagnostic codes U2107, U2105, U2100, U0073, P0575, U2111. Found fretting at TCM
connector pin 5 & 6. They dialect terminals then retested. Said they will put a new shifter (control and handle on which was back ordered). October 17th went in to get a rental then October 20th Tim Lally called to say that after shifter replaced, car would not start. Code B1380.
They tested ignition switch & found high resistance, replace switch & dash not powering up with car not starting. Then had to replace BCM.
So, in all the second time around, they replaced the shifter, repaired wiring & connector terminal, replaced BCM & ignition switch (which was done during the recall once before). Within 2 years, wiring needed fixed twice and had to have 2 ignition switches. Something’s not right with this car!
