CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Cobalt continued to carry the torch first lit by the 2005 model year. To be clear, that torch is burning bright with widespread power steering issues, electrical curiosities and a dangerous ignition switch defect which led to a massive recall by GM. This isn’t a great torch to carry.

The 2006 added it’s own special flare with gas leaks due to cracks in the “return portion of the modular reservoir assembly.” A recall of 2006 Cobalts was issued to fix the problem, but only to vehicles sold in or current registered in Arizona and Nevada, leaving other owners to pay for repairs themselves.

Between this car stalling while driving, giving owners fits with power steering failure and having it be a potential tinderbox because of gas leaks, we felt we had no other option than to award it our “Avoid Like the Plague” badge.

CHEVY COBALT IS A CRAP CAR !!!!

WITH RECALLS LEFT AND RIGHT, PIECE SH*T!!!! IF I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET, NEVER. I WILL BUY A BIKE, IT'S BETTER.

MY CAR RIGHT NOW DOESN'T START. CHECKING ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I CALL THE DEALER FOR IGNITION RECALL 5 MONTHS AGO, I'M STILL WAITING FOR A CALL BUT SEEMS NOTHING THEY CARE, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE ONLY THING THAT I KNOW, I'M STILL PAYING PAYMENT TO THE BANK FOR THIS PIECE SH*T!!

I found a recall for the fuel injectors on 2006 Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac Pursuit vehicles. A recall that would cause misfire, and a fuel odor. Having experienced both symptoms I felt there was a chance my car may be within the range of VIN numbers covered under this recall. There it was! I was within the range! So I take the car into my local dealer and present him with all my documentation proving I am within the VIN range and showing him my car stinking of gas. He pulls up a document called the VIS. Tells me that if this recall applies to my vehicle it will be listed within that document. Huh? Convinced the service advisor there is something fishy here and he lets me take a mechanic for a ride to verify a misfire. At this point we are looking for further proof that the condition is the same for my car so we have evidence. The mechanic tells me he smells the gas and he convinces the service advisor there is more to it than me just talking out my butt. I am given the phone number to reach GM. After a while on the phone explaining everything they told me to get the car diagnosed. HERE IS THE TICKET SO READ ON!!!! While getting the car diagnosed I had to tell them to research document 06090A (the voluntary recall notice) and report whether or not the problem is present or not. They did find the problem and reported the information on my official invoice which I faxed directly to GM to prove my car falls in the VIN range AND has the problem. I have read where many people have had this problem and were told their car was not included. THERE you go. That is how to get it done. Important information below.

GM's excuse for not fixing the car is that one particular plant is the one that screwed this up for them. Remind them that your car is the VIN range, has the symptoms and then ask the rep if it is just a wild coincidence that your car meets all requirements and yet does not have the problem. Smell like BS to anyone?

Other information. I bought my LS used at a crappy dealer with 48,000 miles on it in 2007. Yeah yeah I KNOW!!! I drive the hell out of it making the 1500 mile round trip from home to Phoenix several times a year. So don't let the miles, or your abuse slow you down to get this fixed. Just get in there and use the tools I have given you! It is possible. Took me a month to get it done. Patience and persistence. Maybe not in that order...
