CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Cobalt continued to carry the torch first lit by the 2005 model year. To be clear, that torch is burning bright with widespread power steering issues, electrical curiosities and a dangerous ignition switch defect which led to a massive recall by GM. This isn’t a great torch to carry.
The 2006 added it’s own special flare with gas leaks due to cracks in the “return portion of the modular reservoir assembly.” A recall of 2006 Cobalts was issued to fix the problem, but only to vehicles sold in or current registered in Arizona and Nevada, leaving other owners to pay for repairs themselves.
Between this car stalling while driving, giving owners fits with power steering failure and having it be a potential tinderbox because of gas leaks, we felt we had no other option than to award it our “Avoid Like the Plague” badge.

I'm driving down the road at a normal pace and all of a sudden my power steering light comes on. Then after that I have my check engine light, TC light and my security light all come on at once. Then my speed hand fluctuates. At the same time all of this happens, my car starts jerking really, really bad. Scary bad! At one point I stopped at a stoplight and the car completely stalled and died on me. Luckily it started back up because I'm in downtown traffic when this happens. I
am very concerned for my safety driving this car. My last Chevy car I had that had a problem similar to this the brake system failed last and when it did I was unable to stop the vehicle and I ended up hitting a tree. I believe that I will quit buying Chevy cars after this one. I don't know if its electrical problems in these cars making this happen or what, but I am tired of running into sporadic problems that is a risk to myself and others.
