CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Cobalt continued to carry the torch first lit by the 2005 model year. To be clear, that torch is burning bright with widespread power steering issues, electrical curiosities and a dangerous ignition switch defect which led to a massive recall by GM. This isn’t a great torch to carry.

The 2006 added it’s own special flare with gas leaks due to cracks in the “return portion of the modular reservoir assembly.” A recall of 2006 Cobalts was issued to fix the problem, but only to vehicles sold in or current registered in Arizona and Nevada, leaving other owners to pay for repairs themselves.

Between this car stalling while driving, giving owners fits with power steering failure and having it be a potential tinderbox because of gas leaks, we felt we had no other option than to award it our “Avoid Like the Plague” badge.

I was told at the Dealer that there possibly a recall in the works about this. It hasn't happened. I cut my finger on the thing. It won't glue down, so I have a piece of tape on it it keep from getting cut. For what I paid for the car, I should not have to do crap like that.

Cobalt LT 2.2

  • Automatic transmission

The door panel broke, my dad brought it to the shop they didn't understand where your elbow rests on the door panel is separated. Finally brought it back in they ordered a new door panel. They replaced it and it just broke the other day.. I told them when they had the car in for the day it was starting to break they couldn't find the problem.. the whole thing is broken again and I will keep having it replaced until I trade the thing in.

Cobalt SS S/C 2.0L 4 cyl Supercharge

  • Manual transmission

The laminate around the center console, radio, and door handles is breaking down and scratching off from normal wear and tear. Dealer replaced most of it, but gave me hard time about replacing the rest.
