CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Cobalt continued to carry the torch first lit by the 2005 model year. To be clear, that torch is burning bright with widespread power steering issues, electrical curiosities and a dangerous ignition switch defect which led to a massive recall by GM. This isn’t a great torch to carry.

The 2006 added it’s own special flare with gas leaks due to cracks in the “return portion of the modular reservoir assembly.” A recall of 2006 Cobalts was issued to fix the problem, but only to vehicles sold in or current registered in Arizona and Nevada, leaving other owners to pay for repairs themselves.

Between this car stalling while driving, giving owners fits with power steering failure and having it be a potential tinderbox because of gas leaks, we felt we had no other option than to award it our “Avoid Like the Plague” badge.

I have been to 2 other car repair shops and everyone keeps telling me that the cost to fix is 2100.00 and the warranty ended in August 2010. for a car of only 41,300 miles this should not be a problem.

This car is a money pit. The A/C stopped working, check engine light comes on and goes off all the time, change oil light comes on and goes off, low fuel light comes on and off. not knowing what is going to happen next.

SO the AC compressor went out in my car then broke the alterntor belt. In order to fix the belt and run the car temporarly I purchased a NO AC cobalt belt and bypassed the pulley. However to correct the problem will cost 1400.00.

IN the meantime I have no ac and out the money for 2 belts!!!

This AC problem actually happened twice...it happened 12 months later but I have to say Chevy fixed it without asking any major questions [in the middle of going bankrupt.] But it sure was a pain in the ass...the first time they didn't believe me because the 'light' was on. It shut off as soon as I pulled away...on again off on off on...slam on brakes=on...race===off..another computer problem

AC blew cold air only about two inches from the vent and it felt like a sauna in my car. I took it to the dealer; the first suggestion was to change the HEPA filters. Once they were changed, it started blowing ice cold air again......feels fabulous and I feel like an idiot for waiting nearly two months to take it in to have it looked at!

AIR COMPRESSOR SEIZED UP , ABOUT 5 MILES LATER THE SERPENTINE BELT BROKE , TOTALLY DISABLING THE CAR. HAD IT TOWED TO CHEVY GARAGE 75.00 THEY REPLACED THE AIR COMPRESSOR 699.00 AND BELT 22.00 WITH LABOR IT WAS A TOTAL BILL OF 928.00 THATS 1003.00 ON MASTERCARD. CHEVY SAID THEY CHECKED IN MANUFACTURING AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM , AND THEY CONSIDER THE MATTER CLOSED , SO I DISH OUT ALL THE MONEY MYSELF. i can't get a Toyota fast enough!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! It's almost one hundred degrees outside on the way to a wedding and my air conditioner just stops blowing cold air! It stills blows air but it's not cold. My friend is a mechanic and he looked at it and said that I need a new clutch for my air conditioner. I called the dealership where I purchased my vehicle and have yet to get a call back (5 days later). This kind of stuff should not happen, especially at 51,000 miles!
