CarComplaints.com Notes: The Cobalt was introduced to replace two of Chevy’s smaller cars, the Cavalier and Prizm. But the compact’s fresh start that Chevy was hoping for was riddled with issues, most notably widespread power steering failure.
The power steering failed so often that GM was forced to issue a recall in March, 2010. Great, but what about other problems like the key getting stuck in the ignition or all the other electrical demons this car possesses?
And, oh yes — then there’s the terribly dangerous issue where the Cobalt randomly shuts off while driving. As it turns out, that problem is related to GM’s massive 2014 recall for a dangerous ignition switch defect. A recall that eventually ballooned to 2.6 million vehicles in one of the automotive industry’s biggest scandals.

While I was heading to work this morning I had a brake failure which got me into an accident. The back story of this issue is that 4 years ago I had a similar issue where my brakes failed, and I ended up screeching through a red light. At that time, I had repeatedly asked the dealer to check my brakes and they repeatedly told me "they look fine". Yet, when they finally took them off, there was little to no brakes left.. I should've pressed on and sued them, but due to the dealership being a family friend, my parents wouldn't allow me to do so. My parents were also part of the issue, by feeding doubt to the dealership as to if I actually had an issue (aka "just tell him they are fine".. ).
My issues with the brakes now is that they STILL feel as if they're grinding and trying to "catch" on the mechanism in order to brake. Occasionally it will brake accordingly, making me feel ensured again, but its a rarity when they do.
Today, about an hour ago, I was going through a traffic light when the guy 2 cars up slammed on his brakes. The car in front of me did the same, and I had attempted to brake as well (given the 50-75ft or 1 1/2 car lengths away). The attempt didn't work, my brakes screeched, I slowed a bit, but there was simply no stop until impact. My car, although not entirely damaged (only to bumper frame and around headlights) was still in good shape, and the Mercedes Benz's bumper nearly just popped out of frame.. the collision more or less could've been avoided if my brakes worked.
Now, I could makes the excuses that "my tires needed air" or "I should've paid better attention" etc.. but, the issue at hand is that I don't feel 100% assured that my brakes will work if I need to abruptly stop. I love my car, don't get me wrong.. but, I just wish my brakes worked. Perplexing as well, is that I JUST had a 75,000 mile maintenance done from the same dealership that screwed me over last time. I'll be going to a Geico claims adjuster and shop on Friday, and I'm going to insist that they check up on my brakes. I'm doubtful if the problem was even properly fixed the first time..
If anyone has any information that could help me in this situation, please contact me!
Update from Aug 29, 2014: Hopefully My car will be done by wednesday. Adjuster said it will be $1,327.31 to fix the damages to my front bumper, grill, foam bumper absorber and portions of my frame.
