This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving 35 mph, the contact attempted to shift from 3rd to 4th gear. However, instead of accelerating, the vehicle decelerated and then shut off. The fuel gauge read 1/4. he put 2 gallons of gas in the vehicle and it started immediately. He then added 12 gallons of gas. When the fuel gauge reads 3/4, the vehicle is able to take 10 gallons of gas. The current mileage is 182,875 and failure mileage was 179,875.
My car since I bought it(2001 Z24 Cavalier) has given me problem after problem. Piston rods failing, fuel pump leaking, crankshaft failure, gear box bent causing me to only start car in neutral and can't park on hills. Also... valves have broken numerous times, engine accelerates on its own, fuel gauge was broken, power steering pump leaking, sunroof shattered on me... everything has broken on this brand new car I bought. The dealership will not help me even under warranty... I got a lemon and they want me to keep it. So many problems I cant list them all... most recently I was driving with my 11 month old son and we just got the car out of the shop after 14 days repair on a valve, and the next day we were driving and the engine seized up on me and brakes, and I had to use the emergency brake to stop us from crashing. I had the car towed in and the connected some hose they "forgot" to connect and told me to leave. After we almost could of died, I will not get into the vehicle that I am still have to pay for too. I wish someone could help me! (incident date is most recent occurrence)
Gas gauge reads incorrectly. Shows 1/4 tank of gas however gas tank is bone dry. This has happened twice now. Chevrolet needs to recall this gas sensor as I have read about many cars having this problem. Ridiculous that this hasn't been taken care of yet.
Consumer states while fueling vehicle to full status after driving half hour the fuel needle will remain in full, dealership has been notified service manager will get in contact with consumer. Nlm
