The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving at 30 mph, the driver side air bag independently deployed. The contact was unable to see the roadway and the passenger had to maintain control of the steering wheel as the vehicle steered of road into a gas station area. Both the passenger and contact exited the vehicle and the front passenger side air bag then independently deployed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was awaiting a diagnosis of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,950 and the current mileage was 136,018. - the contact has a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving both driver and passenger air bags deployed. The driver injured his arm when air bag deployed and crashed the vehicle. After contacting the dealer, the dealer stated he has no recall records for his vehicle prior to 2003.
1996 Chevrolet Cavalier passenger air bag inadvertently deployed striking the consumer's 9 year old son in the face. The vehicle was traveling at 20 mph.
Vehicle was stopped and the air bags deployed on both passenger and driver sides. The air bag light came on and off the day before. An engineer from GM came and stated air bags deployed because of moisture in the car. The windows were down the night before and rain got in the car. There were two people in the vehicle when air bags deployed, the air bags smashed the windshield. Two passengers sustained injuries, bruises. Owner believed was a police report. GM was notified and determined that air bags deployed because of moisture. No pictures were available.
Fuel pump seal disintegrated. Cost $1,081 (including 3 day car rental). Earlier this year there was a recall on the steering column and I wound up paying an additional $600 for other defects not covered by the recall. Think that this and many additional problems on this car constitute it being a lemon. More than 5 recalls in 7 years.

Was driving 25mph and was starting to turn into driveway, when both air bags deployed without warning. The driver's air bag exploded with a lot of smoke & caused the driver to suffer burns on chest. Nlm two people were injured.
Recall9V146000/air bag deployment received on April 13, 2000. While traveling at highway speed of 45 mph, a deer jumped on hood of vehicle and broke front windshield. While the vehicle was at a stop, both air bags deployed. The deployed air bags ruptured 2 discs of the driver's neck.
Vehicle was involved in a crash, impact front side by pickup truck. Neither airbag deployed upon impact. Dealer contacted and is aware of the problem. Problem still exists.
Head-on collision at 60 mph, hit tree right in middle of the hood, neither air bag deployed. Driver, 17 years old, suffered severe internal and facial injuries, passenger,12 years old, suffered compound fracture of leg.
While traveling on wet surface, went into a spin and hit cement retaining wall. The air bags did not deploy, and seat belt did not lock, driver was injured.

Consumer was standing at a corner for a right turn when a tractor trailer made a turn and rolled over the consumer vehicle and air bags did not deploy. Dealer/mfr. Were notified.
Consumer was crossing intersection when another vehicle ran stop sign and hit consumer's vehicle on front driver's side, causing vehicle to do a 360 degree turn and rehit the vehicle again in the same place. Air bags did not deploy. Dealer/manufacturer notified.
Recall 98V146; while driving at 55 mph the vehicle moved to right and the airbag deployed unexpectedly without a frontal impact, causing an accident. Called manufacturer prior to the accident. Manufacturer stated that vehicle was covered by the recall. After the accident contacted manufacturer and they stated vehicle was not included in the recall.
