This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving any speed, the vehicle over heats and antifreeze would leak. The consumer managed to pull over and had the vehicle towed. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined.
After listening to a squeek noise from trunk area proceed to a clunking noise, I took vehicle in for service. Was advised by dealer that rear strut and it's mount had failed requiring both to be replaced at a cost of over $800. I feel the failure of this assembly to be a manufacturers defect. Muffler failed prematurely. Water pump failed prematurley. Starting to think 1996 Cavalier was not engineered very well.
Engine head gasket/struts/starter/transmission/ dome light/ paint/,muffler/seats and ABS brakes have all gone badly at least once, and some have been replaced twice and are bad again. Dealer was notified several times, but refused to check or replace. No longer doing business with them due to the service. I have been having to pay for all of the services.
