Captiva LS 4 cylinder

I was driving to work, noticed an unusual amount of white exhaust, and then received a 'low oil pressure, shut engine off immediately' warning. I shut the car off immediately, and had it looked over by a mechanic. My mechanic told me that my rear mail seal failed and that "the oil just poured right out of the car!"

I have taken religious care of this vehicle, and subsequently have never had an issue with it mechanically until now. How is it that the rear main seal fails with no real prior warning? Of course, I'm over the mileage for my powertrain warranty, and although I have not yet spoken to anyone at Chevy about this (due to the holiday). I will update after I've had a conversation with them.

Update from Jan 27, 2018: I spoke with Chevrolet after the holidays, and as I expected, they don't want to do anything about this! They tell me that my VIN is not associated with the issue of the PCV clogging and blowing out the rear main seal - for which they issued a TSB. I told them they were wrong, I have the exact issue described in their TSB and that perhaps they have a larger problem than they realize. I was told that I could pay for the repair out of pocket at a certified Chevy mechanic and that they could contact a Chevy engineer to "see" if I could possibly get coverage. AFTER I PAY OUT OF POCKET OF COURSE! Forget that...its lawyer time! I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVY PRODUCT AGAIN!!!!

This 2013 Chevy Captiva has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty . The rear main oil seal should be covered as per the warranty. The seal caused a severe oil leak causing damage to the timing chains and guide pins.

Once the sound of the engine became abnormal the car was shut off and towed to a certified Chevy service center. I was advised by GM that I should have it towed to this particular center for diagnostics. After the service center confirmed the diagnostics they requested oil change history for the vehicle. I was able to get records from the national chain service center that the vehicle was serviced at. The records documented the oil changes for the past 2 consecutive years. I was told that I needed more records because of a gap of 12,000 miles prior to the documentation that I submitted. I cannot produce these records because I did not have access to them. These records do exist but I do not have access to them because I did not personally have the vehicle serviced. I was told they cannot cover the failed engine and it would cost $2,600 to repair.

I am stuck with no car and nearly $10,000 remaining on the loan for the vehicle. If I get it repaired for $2,600 my warranty would be 12,000 miles or 1 year for the repair. Towing fees and diagnostic charge is what I have vested in this ordeal as of yet. Not sure if the repair is worth it. Should I just take my losses and get rid of it for whatever its worth with a failed engine. If this is the case I will NEVER buy a GM product again. This vehicle was my fifth GM vehicle and my last.
