I have not scheduled appointment yet. Upon reading other posts, this has been a problem for years. I am not hearing of successful resolutions as the problem keeps occurring for these people. I too, am concerned that I will be rear-ended because of the sudden slow down that it creates when I can't engage 2nd gear. I still only have 800 miles on the car. Hopefully, GM acknowledges the problem and has a solution. The dealer is 20 miles from my home and I don't have much time going back to them for service calls.
Update from Apr 10, 2015: It turns out that GM has designed the car to skip second gear if you accelerate in a slow fashion. This is a fuel saving feature that the brain trust has implemented to meet economy standards set by the government.A diagram on the dash of a gear pattern appears when this skip shift feature is occurring. There is a way to trick your computer so that is won't skip 2nd gear. You can check on Google. I don't know if that will void the warranty, however. The car has to be up to a certain temperature and using 20% throttle and reach 15-19 mph (approximately). This is annoying and dangerous in my opinion. I just rev it to a higher rpm which bypasses this feature. Ironically, it burns more fuel. So this design does just the opposite of it's intention. Not too smart!
