Vehicle was parked in driveway at home on slight incline (<3% grade). Parking brake failed but vehicle is a manual and was in 1st gear so it didn't move noticeably. Discovered when pushed in clutch to start vehicle and had to slam hard on brake to stop vehicle moving backwards down incline. Took vehicle to local dealership and paid for inspection. Linkage to parking brake below center console had broken free at joint (lead solder ball popped off cable). No new parts are available to repair, limited availability for used parts (have yet to find one). Dealer service advisor made comment that it happens a lot so parts are difficult to find now.

The car was making a turn in inclement weather when it lost traction. In every effort to slow the vehicle, my husband (whom was driving) downshifted to third gear, as the car was sliding into a ditch the clutch stuck to the floor (as it has done before on several occasions and has been mentioned to the local dealership), the brakes went out, the E-brake was pulled in an intense effort to slow the vehicle during the loss of control from impacting an electrical pole. When the first impact was made into the ditch, all 4 curtain airbags deployed. After the second full frontal impact into the electrical pole, the driver's side airbag deployed, however, the passenger side airbag did not even though it had an occupant.
I was pulling into a parking space making a sudden sharp left turn when the steering wheel locked up completely, brakes could no longer be depressed any further and the engine shut off completely. Once vehicle came to full stop, the ignition would not release my key or let me start the car after shifting it back into park. I tried shifting out and back into park, opening the driver door and closing it with no fix. After 3 minutes, the car finally let me start the engine and released the wheel, brakes and key. Onstar's diagnostic test at time of incident showed no problems. Went to dealership that evening and Chevy's technician said there are no codes that pull up. The technician and I both reenacted the situation with their diagnostic laptop and could not get the car to do it again and I was sent off with "no known issues found".
Noticed my master cylinder leaking a very concerning amount of fluid, I happen to opened my hood to do a regular monthly inspection and noticed the leak, if I didn't notice I could have had brake failure due to lack of fluid!!! there should be a recall.
