I bought the truck form a gm dealer in 2008, it had 19,000 miles, it is a 2001, with a 5.3 V8. I never plowed or towed ANYTHING with the truck, just a daily driver to work. 40 miles each way. one day i went to pull out of a road, stepped on the gas and then lost power...tranny just went! never slipped..I researched it and found many similar complaints, it was the input sprag(like a clutch in the auto trans) it just sheard from the torque of the motor. basically, the sprag was inferior, and the transmission is a light duty transmission, which is underrated for thr torque of the 5.3. I contacted GM, and they did nothing, said there was no recall...of course, they don't count the 10,000 complaints of the same problem. since GM has no desire to maintain customers, and will not admit faulty parts, I would NEVER PURCHASE A GM TRUCK AGAIN! their trucks from the 70's and 80's outlast their 2000 versions, ..what a pity, ant they still get bailed out after selling crappy trucks that were built to last 3 years!! if you are thinking of buying a new truck, buy a toyota! the engines last 300,000 miles, and the trannys last almost as long(automatic) .....if you have had the same problem contact me and let's write letter's and get GM to force a recall, or sue them!!
