The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that while driving, another driver informed that the rear brake lights failed to operate. In addition, the contact mentioned that when the brake pedal was depressed, an abnormal sound and smoke emitted from the safety hazard switch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being diagnosed but had not been repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 01V364000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 141,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. While driving 5 mph, both brake lights failed to illuminate properly while reversing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 160,000.

The contact took the vehicle into the dealership to be serviced, and was informed that they could not diagnose the failure. Neither the road conditions nor the weather were factors in the failure.
Three years ago the problem began. The owner pulled over to the side of the street and when the hazard lights were turned off then brakes went off as well and would not come back on. The main tail lights and brake lights did not work anymore. There was a recall and the owner did not receive the recall notice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for service and the hazard light switch was replaced. The next time the hazard lights were used, the brake lights stopped working again. This happened about ten months after the first failure. Then the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, they were willing to repair the hazard lights at a cost of $500. There seemed to be no indication from the dealership as to why these hazards lights kept failing. The dealership has been contacted by the owner at least 7 times in last month and a half. The owner attempted to work it out with GM 10 times in the last month and a half.
I have multiple complaints, the gas gauge on my vehicle stop working and I ran out of gas in the middle of the street when I realized problem 2 the rear brake lights and hazard lights do not work. The other problem is the vehicle stalls, and when it finally take off, the car jerks and the driver seat moves/slides back from the hinges which caused me to not be able to reach my breaks and run into a curb. Also the driver side door sticks and is difficult to open. Lastly the wheel baring and ball joints have gone bad twice and the car has less then 75000 miles on it. I called GM customer service department and explained all of my concerns and was told they we not aware of any nationwide problem and there was nothing they could do except fix the hazard light malfunction. I researched on the net and found many many people complaining of the same concerns I have.
While vehicle was parked and consumer was taking the key from the ignition switch steering wheel caught on fire, independent mechanic determined that hazard warning switch melted, and caused the fire. Also, turn signal and brake lights were inoperative.
The 2000 Chevy Blazer is a mechanical and saftey nightmare! this vehicle was purchased brand new/lease and I have had problems from the beginning. The exhaust has never sounded normal; it has a preignition (rattle-like) noise, and I was recently told that the catalytic converter is bad. The alternator failed at approximately 12000 miles. The hazard lights failed in April 2002, and the brake lights failed shortly after. The steering problems include: Clunking when turning to the left, a shift in the front end (feels like the front pass. Side steering components are loose). The vehicle is almost impossible to control on freeway due to loose steering and inability to control on transitioning/uneven pavement. The dealer has replaced front pass-side tierod and stabilizer, and the steering wheel now has a 12-15degree, off-center, right list. Cutter cheverolet of Hawaii is now having us try to reproduce the problem(s), and trying everything they can to not accept that the vehicle is, in fact, a "lemon"! what does it take to prove that a vehicle is just not a good vehicle; does my family have to get injured or die to prove there is a problem! we are a "GM-family"(entitled to GM family discounts), and this is how we get treated...no acceptence of responsibility or pride/honesty in their product. I will never buy another GM product; ever! the dealership, GM factory, and gmac should rightfully accept responsibility and take the vehicle back. I have better things to pay $384 per month! Brake lights completely stopped working. This was second time this has happened. They will stop working and then they will start to work again. The hazard warning lights are also not working.
I learned of a recall of 2000 and 2001 GM vehicles relating to brake light failure. I contacted GM and they refuse to honor or issue recall stating my vehicle is not affected or covered by VIN. It's rear brake lights do not work despite replacement of all bulbs and fuses.
Brake lights do not light up when stepping on brakes. Also, emergency brake lights do not come on. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything.
Brake lights will not light up. Police has pulled vehicle over for brake lights not being on. Dealer replaced multi function switch, however problem still occurs, emergency flashers inoperable, dealer replaced multi function switch again and problem still continues.
