This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Consumer stated: Brakes were squeaking, seemed like braking distance was twice to three times to stop, sometimes had to push all the way to the floor, could feel brake pedal going back and forth. Also, while driving and whether using brakes or not one could hear a rattle of noise. Dealer said calipers were totally defective. Replaced brake pads and rotors
I purchased a 1999 Chevy 2 door 4X4 Blazer on 1/8/02. I discovered in March of 2002 that the brakes were "fried" everything was burned. The dealership from which I purchased the vehicle replaced the brake pads and rotors, both front and rear. In March of 2003 I had my brakes checked by a Chevrolet dealership. The results were my front and rear brakes were warped and needed replaced. I got the brakes fixed. On 7/19/04. I went to have my vehicle serviced and I had my brakes inspected once again. The service technician stated that my brakes were "shot!!" my pads are at 20% and my rotors need replaces. I feel this is very excessive regarding the replacement of brakes within 2 1/2 years of owning this vehicle. I feel its a serious safety issue and needs to be looked into. I am very nervous for my safety when driving this vehicle, because it seems the brakes are going out in a short amount of time.
While preparing for the state inspection, it was discovered that the rear rotors had completely rusted. The brakes were unable to make contact. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, who said there was nothing they could do.
Brake rotors rusted, causing bad vibration when stopping. Two of the rotors could be turned and two had to be replaced because of the rust problem. I kept the two that were replaced. The dealership told me that if this vehicle wasn't driven much in winter in Michigan, that rotors would rust because of the humidity. I told them I kept the vehicle in the garage, but they said that would not make any difference. I felt the material was defective. The vehicle was still under warranty, but that would not cover it. I contacted GM to get a field representative's name and number to talk to but they would not give it to me. The dealership would not give me the field representative's name and number either. I feel that if a vehicle's brake system is going to rust sitting in a garage in the winter, that information should be public knowledge published in large print in the vehicle brochures.
Consumer reporting excessive wear of brake pads and rotors, from 17,614 to 35,500 miles there were three sets of brake rotors and two sets of brake pads replace on the vehicle, and the problem reoccurs. The dealer has been notified. Water leak on passenger side floor, driver side door rattles going over bumps, both front windows outer molding comes off, moldings replaced, humming noise from front wheels when coming to a stop, wheel bearing / hub replaced.
Vehicle is not over two years old, but over 36,000 miles, and owner had to replace brake pads and rotors. When applying brakes truck would pulstate before coming to a stop. Brake on the rear driver's side was the worst. Rotor seemed to have chucks of steel missing. Driver side seat back handles stem broke inside.
One panic stop to avoid a collision. The front brakes locked up. They smoked and had a burnt odor, the dealer resurfaced the rotors, fixed a brake line. Now when stopped, the brake pedal slowly goes to the floor, though I do have braking power when moving. The dealer rechecked it and told me this is normal. An independent mechanic says not. To date, the dealer has not fixed the problems.
