This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Windshield wipers intermittently stopped working while driving in the rain. The manufacturer refused to repair the problem due to vehicle being a salvaged vehicle. The county considered the vehicle to be salvage. The dealer would not repair the windshield wipers.
I purchase my 97 Blazer in Dec 2000 with 35000 miles from a local dealer, I believe it was a previous lease vehicle. Within one year I had to replace ball joints but was told that I did not qualify for a recall. In Feb of 2003 I lost my heat and spent close to 2000 dollars replacing first the water pump, then the radiator. After that didn't solve the problem, the dealership told me that the system needed to be flushed with a special machine that would cost another 400 dollars. The system had to be flushed twice to get marginal heat. According to the dealership, the next move is to replace the heater core. Now the wipers stop working and only restart by flipping the switch back and forth. Not real good on the highway in rush hour traffic. I recently had the alternator replaced and the dealership stated that the serpentine belt was old and cracked and needed to be replaced. It actually had less than 5000 miles on it as they replaced it in February when the water pump was done, there was nothing wrong with it. The combination of lousy service from 2 different dealerships, a vehicle that has had nothing but ongoing problems will be enough to stop me from buying another GM product again.
Windshield wipers work intermittently. Cause is unknown. There is recall 98V150001thats describesc the same problem, but this vehicle was not affected by recall due to VIN.
Windshield wipers work intermittently. Vehicle checked by dealer who determined that the module was bad. The consumer was told that this was normal. The module was replaced on 8-07-02 and to date 2-25-2002, there has been no re-occurences.
Windshield wipers stop at mid swipe and won't start again. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer states that the wipers will not start when turned on. Consumer has almost wrecked the vehicle on several occasions. The manufacturer says that there is no problem.
Windshield wipers will work intermittently or will sometimes not work at all. Cause unknown. Dealer notified. Consumer states that tapping on the windshield wiper motor box gently will usually get the wipers to work.
Windshield wipers do not work properly anymore. They will turn on, and will stop, then start to work, then stop, if I turn them off, they keep working (they are still on with the switch on the "off" position) and will stop at various places on the windshield, often in a "straight up" position, which blocks driver view. When turned on again to fix, they often stop in the same place. This can go on for several attempts to get them to stop (rest) in the proper place. Also, turning them on delay will not work anymore. They seem to work with no delay, or they will stop completely on their own. I see a recall for wipers for the same vehicle, previous years, is there any chance the 97 Blazer (I have a 2-dr.) has the same problem? thank you.
While driving in rain windshield wipers stop working. Windshield wipers work intermittently. Also, windshield wiper circuit board gave out. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated circuit board was not under warranty because it was electrical.
The windshield wipers have stopped working several different times while it has been raining. This has almost caused me to wreck!! I feel this is a manufacturer's defect as my brother owns a Chevrolet sanoma & has the same problem. He replaced the motor & has continued to have problems. This is getting to be very costly. The manufacturer should cover it. How can I contact Chevrolet as well?
While driving in a rain storm windshield wipers stopped operating. When the dealer was contacted to repair the problem, indicated several similar problems with this model and year.
