Windshield wipers lose intermittent function and stick in low speed. Usually happens in a light rainstorm. Wipers, when malfunctioning, also will stay on going at low speed even with the switch turned off. Gas gauge also is not functioning right and has a tendency to bounce from extreme to extreme without warning.
The transmission in my vehicle has a defective valve body and it caused my transmission to break, I went to the dealer when I first had the problem of a hard shift from first to second gear when the vehicle was being driven long distances. The dealer said the vehicle is shifting fine and to bring it back when it does it again. This was back on 08/19/02 and now I have a code 1870 on the computer and the transmission is shot. I found out the transmission is a 4L60E and it is very unreliable. Also I already had to change my water pump and alternator and my gas gauge does not work and there is a problem with my windshield wipers also.
1997 chev Blazer S-10 windshield wippers intermittent problem. Stop working without warning transmission tcv shorted out, causing computer to short out, requiring replacement gas gauge doesn't work past 1/2 tank no warning. Ran out of gas on interstate.
The windshield wiper motor has quit functioning on 4 different occassions during the past year, and everytime, naturally, it has been raining or snowing. I have talked to other 96 and 97 Blazer owners and about half have had their wiper motors replaced indicating to me a basic design flaw. The dealer said it was the first case he's heard of a tap on the motor case brings the dead motor back to life.

This is a reoccuring problem. I literally need to get out of the trck and pull up on the blades in order for them to function - or constantly turn the knob on and off, until the wipers "catch". there has been instances while driving and the wipers functioning that they literally stop in the upright position. I know there has been a recall on the 1996 models - however the 1997 was not included. I know I am not the only person experiencing this problem!
