This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While approaching an intersection and applying the brakes the ABS valve began to chatter but the brake did not apply the brake valve only chattered quickly allowing the brakes to shutter, as a result of the vehicle not being able to stop the consumer hit another vehicle. Nlm
Recall 99I006000 was repaired by the dealership. However, after defect was repaired brake system will lock up, and consumer will lose control of steering. Vehicle stalled 2 times after driven, then shut off for 15 minutes then restarted, dealer reprogrammed ECM. Front brake pads replaced, resurfaced rotors, replaced worn out brakes, during light braking during light rain, ABS kicks in. Rear tires worn on outside edges, consumer did not give any specific information regarding tires.
ABS brakes lock up sporadically, with no warning. Can happen at any time brake pressure is applied. Brakes also have a high pitched squeal/squeek when braking to stop. The locking up problem is only occasionally, while the squealing/squeeking noise is there all the time.
Recall work (99I-006 & 99V-193) was denied to customer for several months, during the waiting period the brakes failed resulting in rear end collision.
While driving about 50 mph applied brakes, pedal went to floor, applied brakes again pedal would not go down. Applied brakes again, ABS light came on, at that time no ABS braking action. Dealer found right front speed sensor to be at fault.
In approximately, July, 2000, (unfortunately, I cannot remember the exact date) the anti-lock brake light came on on the said vehicle. I checked the websites for both Chevrolet and NHTSA to see if any recalls had been called. On the website it stated that there had been for 1991-1996. When I contacted Chevrolet via telephone, they denied that this information was on their website and stated that it was only up to the year 1995. They stated that they would have to have a certain amount of complaints before a recall could be made on a certain vehicle year. I stated my frustration with the represenative and told her that I would make every attempt to receive what I felt I was due. After several calls and headaches, they finally sent a recall notice. I took the vehicle to gibson Chevrolet in South holland, Illinois who replaced a switch and said they were done. When I began to leave, I noticed that the anti-lock light was still on. I went back into the service department and told them that the light was still on and the gentleman stated that what they had repaired would not prevent the light from being on. After several conversational circles, I questioned whether or not the vehicles anti-lock braking system was operational and I was told "no" " we could run a diagnostic check, but you would have to pay for it." Now, it was around the same time that I reported that my light had come on when the braking system failed. In addition to that I had approximately 7 brake pad changes in a period of 16 months at a local repair shop. My concern is that if the light came on at the time recalls were being made, why does this vehicle not qualify for not only the switch to be repaired but for the entire system. At this time, I am extremely concerned that since the anti-locks are non-functional and the pads continue to wear, that I may be in danger. They show minimal concern to the welfare of their clients. I feel robbed as well as cheated. Please help me.
While driving in the rain, consumer put on brakes and felt ABS kicking in, but there was a delay in stopping, consumer has also been to the dealer regarding an excessive brake squeak, dealer had replaced brake pads twice and rotors once. Right rear door won't always unlock from inside, dealer found no problem, pins at driver's door hinges rusted. The seal around right rear window holds water after rain. Rear passenger seat will not fold down, dealer found cable binding up. Water collects in rear light lense when washing vehicle, dealer replaced taillight lense, center high mount lense collects moisture, dealer replaced 3rd light brake assembly. Consumer flushed radiator and 12 months later it needed flushed again, dealer performed, consumer paid to have the first flush down and is requesting reimbursement.
The problems with this vehicle have been numerous however, I listed only one specific incident. These brakes have not worked properly since the vehicle was driven home. It has been in the shop and a download was made to the computer. This has not helped the problem. The brakes are unreliable at best.
Consumer tried to stop at an intersection and idler pulley/serpentine belts were replaced. Then, steering locked up, and brakes failed, consumer stated that recall 98V193000 concerning ABS brakes was never done.
Twice the brakes failed. Going down my driveway and approaching a stopsign. While holding down the brake, the pedal sunk to the floor. Took it in. Dealer did recall99041.
Consumer was involved in an accident when the vehicle slid due to the brake failure, consumer received manufacturer's recall C99041-S (99V-193) after the incident occurred, consumer is requesting reimbursement.
At 12,884 brake booster was replaced, at 44,080 miles brake booster was replaced again. Now at 68, 192 miles brake booster was replaced for the third time. Dealership could not find a contributing factor for this problem.
Windshield wipers works intermittently in rain, ABS brakes not working properly on wet pavement; pedal goes to floor. Has been to dealer. There has been recalls on both problems, as per manufacturer. But, consumer's vehicle vehicle is not part of recalls.
I work at night driving and often have to break fast for deer crossing the highways. The first time I had to break quickly for 2 deer the vehicle gave a growling sound and just continued at the same speed until I had hit the deer. The last time this happened was today and luckily I was able to swerve around the deer without losing control. I complained of the transmission in March, 2000 and was told there is nothing wrong with it. At that time I had them change the transmission fluid, filter and gasket, but it still has times when it doesn't want to go.
