This happened shortly after I got the vehicle. I put it in park in a fast food drive thru and it wouldn't come back out of park. I tried restarting the car but that didn't work. My husband looked it up on his phone while I messed with the car and found that there's a small slot near the shifter, I took the key out of the ignition and shoved it in the hole. I could feel it push a spring down and I shifted it into neutral then restarted the car and was able to drive fine after that. Since then it has happened numerous times and is a real inconvenience but it doesn't seem to cause any other issues so I have been dealing with it.
It has happened to me so many times i cannot count, but when my car is on and i put it in park...i cannot get it out of park. Most of the time I have to turn my car off, then turn it back on again for it to work.
The dealership "cannot fix it" because it has never happened for them.
This has happened about three times since we purchased the car in Jan/2009. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem therefore, cannot fix it.
When you start the car and push the brake you hear a faint click & depress the little secondary safety release button on the shifter. It should then allow you to change gears.
I guess the little switch says " hold on, I'll be with you momentarily". After a minute or two of swearing it will release. ???
