Aveo LS 1.6L

Pulling away from a stop light, sounded like I drove over loose gravel, lost all power, Serpentine belt snapped, breaking the timing chain plastic cover, and wrapping around the timing chair gear. blew the whole engine, valves and pistons, beyond repair, too expensive to repair on a social security fixed income. so it sits, until I can afford to fix it, costs over $500 just to have it taken apart to see how bad the damage was.

To ALL owners of and type of AVEO read this. The Chevy AVEO is not a Chevy, it's a Deawoo. These cars are built and designed in South Korea. If you pop the hood on a AVEO somewhere inside the engine bay you will see the Daewoo logo. Having worked at a former Daewoo dealer for a couple years here's the timing belt issue. Daewoo recommended replacement anywhere between 40-60k miles depending on climate and driving style. In the days of Daewoo their motors needed the belt, water pump, idler pulleys, and tensioner replaced. People that didn't do this ran into engine failure.

I took over my mom's car and I'm making payments through her. Every time I get work done on my car I'm always having one problem after another. first time I took it to jiffy lube to have everything worked on I payed over $700, the next day my car stalled on me. keeps shutting off every time I stopped at a red light. I was able to have the car fixed by a neighbor for free just had to pay for the parts. I feel like the car would cause so many crashes or problems. the person who sold my mom the car didn't give her any warranties on the car. my mom bought it as is. I think It was a horrible idea. I think this car is dangerous to be driving, especially having kids riding in the car. Now my brakes are bad. have to pay $334. and while driving on the freeway my ac stopped working. it's worse driving on the freeway with bad traffic. it's horrible. I'm spending so much money on this car to get fixed and breaks down again

Engine is gasoline yet one day it started to run like a desiel truck knocking with horrid sounds, I took it straight to the dealership where they told me it was my fault for not properly mantaining the vehicle. I had oil changed every 3 to 5 thousand miles. I had to do my own research to prove it was a common problem and contact a gm customer service rep before anything was done, All in all it took a month of anger and frustration before they would fix it.

Turns out the freeze plug had a bad seal ( common problem ) and let the coolant leak into the oil, Then engine goes BOOM! I will never by another gm product as loing as I live nor will I let any family members.

Then after I got the car back I opened the hood to get a look at what the did and I found three bolts missing off the valve cover an wires not reinstalled into their holders. SLOPPY GM must get there mechanics from hobbie shops.
