Avalanche LTZ 5.3L

After reading up on all the other owner's and them having the same issue's it is clear that this is a problem that GM should have had a recall on long time ago. I went to my local Chevy Dealership and they told me it would cost approx form $500 to $650 for the replacement of a new dash DIC , I then read how a customer found out that the dealer he went to just had it repaired at a fraction of the cost. Has anyone contacted a Lawyer or filed a class action lawsuit would like to know. I found someone on line called circuit board medics.com the cost for the repair with new parts for a 07 Avalanche is $120. I have not called them as of yet but plan on in morning to get more info. However I feel that GM needs to fix this problem if there are many owner's that are having the same issue. Thanks for reading. Nelson E Ocasio VLD N.J

Avalanche LTZ 5.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

I see that many Chevy owners have had a problem like mine, I have seen different solutions to fix the problem but no re-calls have been made to address this issue.

My truck is a 2007 Avalanche LTZ which spent a day at my local Chevy dealer, I asked them to check into why my DIC system on my gauge is not illuminating any data. I spent $201.00 for them to tell me, what I already knew... it's not working.

There was a faint smell of wire burning which I told the dealer and the did a harness re-call but didn't fix my problem.

The solution was to order a new gauge cluster to the tune of $500.00 +/- plus labor. Pissed off, I said fix it.... only to find out there solution was a re-furbished unit from a local company that repairs these electronic units... I just happened to call them after reading about another owner having the same problem, I could have exchanged mine or had mine fixed for $189.00 ... But felt the dealer was the better place to go for warranty reasons.

My problem is this .... the re-furbished unit is the dealer's solution, the repair facility told me the know this is an issue based on the revenue they receive for these types of repairs... So why is the manufacture not doing a recall.... Why is it always about the money and not customer satisfaction...

The happier we are the more they sell .... The more pissed off we are ... Well they don't seem to care.

Avalanche LS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,300 miles

The Driver Information Center (DIC) display no longer illuminates, therefore I don't know my current mileage. Other helpful information, oil change status, tire pressure monitoring, door open warning, etc., are not available. The display used to flicker and I could tap the unit and it would re-illuminate. I removed the instrument cluster hoping to find a fusible link that could be removed and replaced, but all I found were soldered connections. I looked for burned out soldering points, but no luck, no loose connections. Now the digital display for transmission selection is dimming. I suppose the only remedy is replacing the entire unit. Has anyone found at at-home remedy for this disappointment in the GM product. I like my Avalanche, but dislike the little nuisances that are beginning to surface.
