I think there should be a recall on all 2007 and 2008 Chevrolet trucks,SUV's and Avalanche. Because we have invested too much money in our vehicles to have the dash just crack . GM should pay for all replacements caused and maybe a free oil change or two.

Apparently this is comon to 2007 Avalanches. A search on the net will find many complaints. GM has not agreed to address this. So, the buyer of the vehicle will either have to live with it or fix it. The crack is on the passenger side, extending fron the top left corner of the airbag to the next seam. From reports I am reading there will be others. Poor enginerring design.

Love the Avalanche for the ride and versatility - but it comes with "chevy squeaks" and issues - never in 40 yrs of driving have i ever had a dashboard crack without persuasion - and the rear window trim/seal cracked as well! Puddles in my car! ...great.

I do not care to spend hundreds to repair the dash - but it is an eyesore and will effect resale value...considered a 2013 Avalanche - but....

The Avalanche we purchased has been an outstanding vehicle in many ways and we painstakenly take care to preserve the looks and mechanics of the vehicle, BUT, when out of the blue the dash cracks for no apparent reason in two different places, it makes me wonder if they skimped any where else on the vehicle. I have been putting off having it repaired after learning from several other avalanche owners they have encountered the same problem in almost the exact locations as the cracks my dash. I've driven in other older vehicles (Ford & Ram) that haven't had near the care as my vehicle and alot more abuse by they're employees , and these dashboards seem to hold up very well and are still intact. What happen to the GM quality that we've been used to these past 30 or so years?

Not only did this happen to my Avalanche, but I'm also a service manager at a GM dealership. I see many complaints of this on this site and dash cracking is a known issue with GM C/K body vehicles 07 and up, however GM DOES stand behind the product. GM has given ALL dealers practically unlimited empowerment to aid customers in out-of-warranty situations. There are common-sense guidelines, such as salvaged vehicles, condition, etc, but ground-level GM dealerships ABSOLUTELY have the power to help. Many years ago GM needed to authorize all assistance, but not any longer. They've allowed us the power to SOLVE issues because they understand that jumping through hoops to get an issue resolved will NOT entice you to purchase GM again, even if the issue is handled. We can handle it immediately, in-house, without the complications. From what I read here, it appears that most are having a DEALER problem. There's still a lot of old-time dealership managers that aren't comfortable making those decisions, mainly because of the "old school" mentality of GM. You need to find you a dealer that will work WITH you.

Also, most people don't understand that GM pays the dealership for repairs performed under warranty or out-of-waranty assistance just as any other customer - we DON"T do it for free. It's a win-win for both of us to help all of our guests - you're happy, we make money, and everyone is happy, but MOST IMPORTANTLY we're allowed to take care of our guests in a manner that is SECOND TO NONE. There is NO other manufacturer that gives that kind of power and authority to their dealers, nor will help as much as GM. Unfortunately some dealers appear to remain old-school, but PLEASE don't let that change your perception of GM. If you can't get it resolved at the dealer level, please call GM customer assistance and they will definitely direct you to the appropriate place for resolution. Also remember, for those of you that scream Toyota, Honda, etc, that ALL dealerships have a service department attached to them for a reason, and if you visit those places you'll see just as many of their owners upset with their vehicle. All brands have issues, but it's how they're resolved that makes the difference.

I've have read all the numerous complaints about this issue! Believe me I was just as peeved about my cracked dash on my 2007 Avalanche as well and can feel everyone's pain! But the service I received from Power Chevy in Peoria, AZ is always top notch! My Avalanche has almost 60000 miles on it and out of warranty! My service adviser had the factory rep at the shop with him and his boss yesterday when I called to ask what could be done. Letting him know also of all the complaints I had read! Well my Avalanche is in the shop today having the dash replaced for a very good deal of $100. So I guess I'm a lucky dog! I think the problem really sucks for most but having a reputable dealer is a plus! Or Chevy has seen the problem as a real deal and maybe they have started doing something about it!

cracked dashboard cracked dashboard

I bought my 2007 Avalanche new. I absolutely love my truck, and it has been very well taken care of. The first weekend of July, we noticed that the dash was cracked by the passenger side airbag and above the operator control panel. I started doing a little research to see if I was the only one having this problem, and to my surprise, I see pictures that look identical to mine! Has anyone been able to have their dash replaced by Chevrolet at the dealers expense? I believe that Chevrolet should recall these vehicles!!!

After paying an arm and a leg in supporting an American built product and brand only to be shitted on by the company regarding a new purchase and refusing to have a recall an all avalanches that have been having the same problem. I have taken the next step by complaining to the BBB, to which finally some response from GM. I have been told by a GM rep. That maybe if more people contact the BBB and register a complaint, that may they might have a recall on the broken dashboard before someone dies from such unwilling and reluctant from a company that's trying to make a comeback with such inferior product and terrible company support to their product. We as consumers deserve more for what we pay for.If GM believe in there product they will stand by their product and their customers and show that their products are worth fighting for.

Avalanche LTZ 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,000 miles

Bought this beautiful 2007 Avalanche in May 2010 with only 21,000 miles on it. One year later the front passenger door handle "chrome" is peeling off. No one rarely rides with me, so its just peeling off by its self. Also noticed first dashboard crack at corner of air bag. Few weeks later I noticed that the dashboard is rattling on the driver-side in the instrument cluster area over steering wheel. Last week dashboard developed a 8-inch long jagged cracked in the same location. Vehicle now has 47,809 miles with a dashboard that needs replacing. Checked with three local dealers and all denied any other vehicles of this type issue. (Bulls---t if there is ever such a thing.) One dealership offer to sell and install one for $788.00. The others said they'd check with their managers to see if he'd be willing to do anything to help me, but I haven't heard anything yet, and don't expect to.

The Remote start/ lock system module went bad at 24,000 miles ($660 repair), The paint eroded off the body-side mouldings by 26,000 miles. I replaced the passenger-side remote retractable mirror 6 months ago because it just quit working while parked in my garage (A $400 repair).

Damn shame you pay $32,000 for a vehicle and start having these kind problems with it. GM hasn't change a damn thing. They still build poorly built vehicles. I never, and I do mean NEVER, had these issues with any Toyota, Acura, Lexus, Infinity, Honda or Mitsubishi I've owned. I sold my problem free 2006 Tundra to buy this piss poor Avalanche. Never again GM...! I'll never buy a GM vehicle ever again.

A class action suit is the only way to get GM to do anything. They're on their way back to bankruptcy if they keep this up...

I guess more a question than a comment, why hasn't a class action lawsuit been filed. It is almost an impossibility to have GM cover this under warranty. I even have a GM extended warranty and they still won't even cover under that. This is a prime example of big business knowing there is a corporate wide problem, yet not doing anything about it. If someone has information of how to get it replaced or an attorney that would be willing to start a class action suit on behalf of the THOUSANDS of GM owners with the same problem, please let me know. Thanks

cracked dashboard cracked dashboard cracked dashboard

i have had my Avalanche since 2007, love my avalanche. Haven t had any problems except the door handle which i got a notice in mail to bring to replace. Fine. My gauges went out, i fixed that myself cause my warranty ran out. had to fix it so i could get mileage for inspection. found out that was a common problem. Now, i get back from Korea late December. Avalanche has been in garage for nearly a year, out of the sun. Only drove it at night time cause i was riding my bike during the day. i decide to drive my avalanche to the carwash. i see 3 cracks in my dashboard, right where i have read numerous complaints, in the same spot. im a solider in the military, i worked hard to get my avalanche. even traded in my 97' Tahoe and 02' f150 for it. to see my dashboard doing what it is doing. i do not like it. now my door handle is starting to peel again. cause i cut my finger opening the door Monday morning.

Update from Jan 13, 2012: Called dealership. they said the problem is being recognized. mainly i think cause it deals with the airbag. dealership would do a 50/50 split on fixing. didnt say if it included install fee at dealership. so i called chevy assistance center. i will get a call back monday. imassuming they are recognizing the problem.

Update from Jan 13, 2012: here are the cracked and location..

Avalanche LS 5.3L

I have taken very good care of this vehicle, love the ride, look and amenities. The crack in the dashboard just above the speedometer runs longitudinally and across the dash. It is an eyesore from the interior and exterior of the vehicle. I am concerned it will affect the gauges and functionality of the components the dash is supposed to protect, and will definitely affect the value of the truck. GM should replace these units to protect their goodwill and future sales of all their vehicle, if they plan on selling any more vehicles.

I purchased the truck from a Hestler's in Fuquay, NC. The dash had a crack in it. The dealer acted surprised but only God knows the truth. They were supposed to have fixed it but said it was non repairable by the upholstery guy. I just noticed today that it has a long crack by the drivers dash above the gauges. on top. This is crap and should be mandatory that the company repair and recall them. I hate Chevys as of today. I am telling everybody

Exact same problem with the cracking as everyone else. This month the dash has another new spot by the airbag. Total of 3 now. Looks awful, dealership is a continual blowoff. 1 crack above speedometer, 2 by airbag, based on research it seems this could be major safety issue now. Shame on Chevrolet for not standing behind their product and not engaging this issue. I'm sure they'll have too as soon as someone gets hurt.

This is our 3rd new Chevrolet in a 6 year period. Each vehicle valued between 35k - 45k, can't believe chevy doesn't care and the dealership has no loyalty. I'll no longer support chevy, can anyone suggest a reputable brand alternative?

Avalanche LT 5.3L

2007 Avalanche 48k miles, dash cracked as many have in the passenger airbag connection and now cracking over the speedometer area as well. Took the Avalanche to the dealer he stated GM use to replace them and it is a frequent problem. But now the best they would do is maybe a 50/50 split. Dealer stated it is between $1500 & $2000 cost to repair. The dealer also stated it is a problem from using Armorall and Florida sun. Which I don't use Armorall and the vehicle is garage kept, a vain attempt to cover up for poor product and engineering issues. The corporate way blame someone else, hope this helps start a class action.

I have a garage kept 07 Avalanche that has driven me up the wall. !. It goes through tires like no ones business, 2 alignments and still something is jacked up. 2. The custom exhaust on the custom package sold to me installed on the truck burned through my brake lines and I lost all brakes on the interstate, not covered!! And 3 at least the truck looks good right, wrong now there are 2 annoying cracks around the passenger dashboard. I wish Hyundai made trucks at least they stand by their products. No wonder GM needed a bailout.
