CarComplaints.com Notes: It didn't take long for the cladding to fade, discolor, and in some cases crack. Cladding is the protective plastic piece that runs along the outside of vehicles, and exposure to both heat and UV rays give the Avalanche's cladding a chalky, faded appearance.
Owners have said the problem is especially bad on the panels near the cargo bed. Eventually, GM agreed to a one-time treatment of ArmorDillo, a protective treatment similar to what you find in any auto shop. Unfortunately, that would only help for 6 months (on average).
Eventually, GM offered another coating solution for owners within the 3 year / 36,000 mile original warranty under TSB:04-08-111-001C.

Air bag light is on and it shows in the display when started to "service air bag". no previous accident or any indication as to the cause just was on one day when I started it.
8/15/2014 - service air bag light displayed. Dealer diagnosed the issue as crash sensor (10370149). Dealership replaced sensor - cost $419. 07/10/2015 - service air bag light displayed. Dealer diagnose the issue as another crash sensor (10370149). Dealership replaced sensor - cost $473. I find it concerning that air bag sensors are failing on a vehicle with less than 35,000 miles. I'm not sure if the system is functional when these sensors fail.
Was driving home on the highway and swerved hitting the divider with the front left corner of vehicle. The seatbelts did not hold me in my seat and my head shattered through the window striking the street light lamp. Airbags also did not deploy meanwhile I was on the highway going about 57mph. The injuries were drastic including partial amputation of my ear, I was in a coma for a few week, 3 skull fractures, tbi, brain bleeding and the list of injuries continue to grow!

2005 Chevrolet Avalanche. Consumer writes in regards to airbag and traction control service lights came on also the four-wheel drive stability system was disabled.
Service air bag goes on and has been doing so ever since then. This happens when humidity is high or after a rain. It stays on until things dry out. However, when this is on the air bags are disabled.
I was on the highway at cruising speed and I happened to look down and my dit says service air bags and shortly after onstar calls me asking if everything was alright. I did some research and got led in many different directions saying there was a recall for air bag sensors and also recall in the T connector in the ds kick panel.
Went to start my vehicle and it flashed service airbag. Took it to the GM dealer and they say its the left front impact sensor. I have heard that this is a common issue for these vehicles and think that this being a safety issue, should be covered by the manufacturer.
The air bag light is on and it costs $90 to diagnose the problem. It's a problem that keeps coming back even after taking it to the dealership to get it fixed. The inspectors will fail the Avalanche because they can't inspect a car with a service airbag light on, which is a problem. Many people are having this same problem and GMC should fix it for free or recall it.
Service airbag came on went to dealer and they could not find any error code or problem. Wanted to replace airbag, harness, wiring harness $2700. After searching internet found over 5,000 other GM vehicle owners with same problem.
"service airbag" light has been on since 2006, which was about 6 month after I purchased the vehicle. I took it to the shop three times while it was under warranty. Each time they fixed it to where the light went off for a month or so, and it soon came back on. The light hasn't been off since. After reading all of the other 2005 Chevy Avalanche issues people are having, I guess I should count my blessings. Hope I don't ever need an airbag!
The service air bag light staying on in my 2005 Chevy Avalanche. It use to be intermittent whenever it was raining or wet outside but now it is on steady after a rainstorm on July 18/10. I have been doing some research online and found out that it is a very common problem with the Chevy Avalanche, GM as put out service bulletins about the wiring but they will not cover the repairs if your warranty is expired. I think this is a very important issue for the safety of all Chevy Avalanche + other model owners that should be taken care of by GM. The website that I found most of my information about this problem on is chevyavalanchefanclub.com if this vehicle is involved in an accident the air bag system is most likely to fail which most likely will cause excessive bodily damage or even death of the passengers and driver that could have been avoided if GM would own up to their responsibility and fix the problems.
"service airbag" sensor light and "idiot" light came on and won't go off. I have been on a few forums about this and there are lots of people with this same problem. Many different ideas on what will fix the problem but GM should issue a recall and fix it for everyone.
I have had my sensor light and the warning light that says "service airbags" come on and it won't go off. I have been on a few auto forums about this and there are hundreds of people with the same problem. The dealers can't seem to figure out what it is and people are spending hundreds of dollars to get it fixed, but it doesn't.
