The power steering seizes for several seconds, and the battery voltage drops from about 14.8 to 11.5-12.3 after driving through standing water. The car has approximately 44,000 miles at this time. This problem began occurring on December 23, 2015 after driving through standing water. The DIC did inform that the Battery Charging System required Service. The Car was towed to the dealer where it was determined the alternator was faulty and a new alternator was installed. The problem occurred several times within the few weeks after that and always after driving through this standing water that cannot be avoided on the way out of my neighborhood (one way in and out). The car has been back to visit the mechanic and no problem was found. I have been advised not to drive through standing water. Impossible in my neighborhood after rain. Obviously, I would be hesitant to drive my car on the freeway in the rain; you never know when standing water that cannot be avoided might appear. To say that I am disappointed in the instruction from my Cadillac mechanic not to drive through standing water, would be an understatement. I have also been advised not to try and find an answer to this problem on the internet. It's a good thing I live in Southern California where, these days, it's true that it hardly ever rains.
