2004 Cadillac Srx. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle brake failure. The consumer stated his wife was driving, when the brakes failed. The dealer was unable to find a problem. The consumer believed the vehicle stalled and lost power steering and brakes.
Service stability system lights on display, car shudders as brakes ramdomly apply at any speed, pulling steering to left or right. The contact owns a 2004 Cadillac Srx. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph on normal road conditions when the "stability control" warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. There was noise outside of the vehicle, followed by the brake system locking. The vehicle began to skid in one direction for few seconds. The driver was able to gain control and continue operation. The failures occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection on three separate occasions for the identical failures and the technicians were unable to duplicate the failures. Recently, the vehicle was repaired at the authorized dealer for the malfunctions. The failure mileage was 66,000. The current mileage was 67,000.
The brake booster supply hose degrades and falls off resulting in no power assist. This can happen with no prior warning and result in property damage and or bodily injury or death. This vehicle is a 2004 Cadillac Srx with a engine code 'a' but other models may be affected.
My Cadillac Srx (purchased 4/2/2004, mileage 34,599) suffered a complete hydraulic brake failure. This occurred in a parking lot, at low speed and there were no injuries or damage. The car was towed to the dealer who repaired the brakes under warranty. The dealer stated that both hydraulic circuits had failed and the only braking was the parking brake. The dealer also stated that this was the first time he had seen this type of failure on this type of vehicle.
