This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to tell vehicles built with text messaging and vehicles that are not. The text messaging feature was not available at the start of production on the sport utility vehicle or heavy duty truck. The option was added mid-cycle production. These utility and heavy duty pickup models must have regular production option code AVF to have the text messaging feature. There is no upgrade available to add text messaging to a vehicle that was built without it.
