The problem is still ongoing even with replacing a bunch of sh*t..... water pump, thermostat, fans, relay switch tcs on block (temp cooling sensor). So now I am in to this for well over the $300.00. I have small children and this car is not safe to drive and if GM is not going to recall for this problem then they should do a buy back for something safer it is just not fair.. GM recalls sh*t that is sometimes stupid but not this major engine problem that could cause a death if overheated on highway and stopped running and then get hit and cause accident and possibly hurt other people for something you should be responsible for..... SO GM WHY NOT DO THE RIGHT THING. Most people can not afford a new car, not when all the money is being put into a car made by you that is a money pit

DeVille Gold Package 4.6L V8

This is an extremely low mileage auto that would sit for entire winters without being driven. The coolant was never changed as far as I can see. The bottom third of radiator was plugged. I changed radiator and t-stat and all is now fine. This is not an easy job and you should not attempt unless you have mechanical skills. Be prepared for cuts and scrapes as everything is packaged very tight. You should allow at least 8 hrs. to complete job. Use dex-cool coolant despite what you may read as it is the correct coolant and will cause no problems as long as you change it every 2 years. coolant should never be left in any car for five years.

Car is overheating and using coolant like crazy but no one can find out where it is going. A Cadillac with 60,000 miles what a hunk of junk.

Update from Jun 9, 2010: There is a plastic injection molded tube running through the intake it corrodes and slowly eats away. It passes water into the cylinders. The car is now junk with 60,000 miles.

DeVille Limited V8

Bought a 1999 Deville. body like new with low miles. On test drive of approximately 5 miles car ran great. I got the car home and went for a rather long ride (30 miles or so) and the car started to run hot. I could not find any leak or smell of anti freeze but the car consistently ran out of fluid. After several trips to the repair shop no reason could be found. i researched the North star problem and found that it was a common problem with this engine. The only repair was to replace the engine at a cost of 4000. As far as i am concerned Cadillac betrayed its customers by continuing to use this engine in its cars. I will never buy a new or used cadillac. They do not deserve my business. I can't state it strongly enough to stay away from any NORTHSTAR motor.
