My family has owned GM vehicles all our lives. My mother is a retiree from GM Trim Plant (1992), Windsor, Ontario where she sewed seats, sunshades for Cadillac. My aunt also worked in inspection, quality control. We drive GM vehicles because it has treated us well with employment and we think they build the best cars. The Cadillac Sedan deVille in metallic forest green we had from 1977 lasted us years of family enjoyment, with little to no problems other than gas consumption, regardless, it was worth it.
The last Cadillac we bought was a 2015 ATS. My son is working part-time so he can pay for the vehicle. It came from a reliable source Jeff Smith's in Essex, and I was able to contact the previous owner and he had mentioned that the screen would sometimes work and not work, then snipits of the symptoms that I see today would occur, but didn't think much of it other than, may it'll go away. So it was never addressed. When I purchased it in Jan. 2019, I had seen similar problems, but thinking maybe I just need to install a Navi in it so it'll make it work better. So I did, and invested another few thousand dollars. Most recently, it's gotten from pain in the but, to holy smokes, this is getting out of hand. I was so scared to touch it as it looked like a cracked cell phone screen.
My son, in April will be taking it on the road to work, he'll be 18 and will be using the Navi daily as his work will involved going to addresses in the city and county and States side to work (Detroit). Without a clear view of the screen, it will not be safe for him to drive. If it was a wear and tear issue like a rug, a molding, a rim scratch, etc., I understand, but when 90% or more of the vehicles out there don't have this, it only leads to one reason--the supplier/manufacturer of the screen needs to be accountable and replace these defective, poorly made screens. A lot of money is invested in cars with these features and we totally expect to upgrade the maps, or if it were an electrical issue, get a new after market radio etc., but in this case, this is totally unacceptable and needs to be deemed as a recall, specifically a safety recall. While driving, even with oral prompts, more time is spent looking at the screen trying to decode the map/roads, and less time paying attention to the actual road, again a safety issue.
GM and it's suppliers need to sit down and work this out so customers are treated fairly and just. This is out of our control. This could have been controlled at the time of manufacturing.
Looking forward to hearing a resolution. I understand that in the United States there have been issues with this, and I want to acknowledge that in Canada, it's happening as well.
